I was actually havuing a bti of a chat about this sorta stuff the other day. It seems like people are now selling religion. I just dont underdstand why there is a need for this.

Time after time I watch the news of people fighting about this and that and in my opinion (flame suit on) it all falls back on some sort of religious belief. Hence the reason why im not caught up in all this

Ill admit that im not very clued up on this sorta stuff so please forgive if I piss some ppl off

Lumpy how did RC start?

Scotty

Absolutely no idea KS. This is pure speculation.

I guess maybe the Roman's were the first 'civilisation' to embrace Christianity. The vastness of the empire meant that it spread to all the corners of the known globe as the 'state' religion so it took root and even after the fall of the empire there were the converts?

Late on, various other Christian groups formed their own specific churches (Greek/Russian Orthodox, Protestanism etc) so the Christian religion that sprung from rome became known as the Roman Catholics?

Yes moderators, delete this topic.

Nothing but a can of worms here.

Then why post :spoton:

I agree, religion is not above debate.

If people are being persecuted for their beliefs then by all means delete, but until then, good friendly debate go on.

Scotty

I'll start by saying I have no religious beliefs at all!

Debate entails argument between differing opinions or views in order to prove one side over another, whereas I prefer discussion. No objections whatsoever to such a topic. I hope such issues are explored more oftern by free-thinking and open mided intelligent people.

But for what purpose?

Dam, well here goes my theory, well not my theory but what I have heard.

Seeing what a powerful and team building power religion was, the Romans, formed a new religion, yes Roamn Catholics, know this religion was used to bind men together and for them to march into war under.

Now of course it was never sold like that, but that was the motivation behind it.

Now this is pure speculation, and I have no proof, just a story I have heard and tend to believe.

Given that there are so many religions, and only the one God, in the vast majority of religions, you have to wonder why.

Scotty

Ps I am open to any disagreement, but please attack the issue not the person.

Power seem's to be a driving power between almost all religions. Thinking about it, I'd prefer to fight for a god and his teachings than be incentivised in the manner in which greek soldiers were persuaded to fight for each other by!

As trustworthy as the internet is, here are a few quick links I googled.

The strange thing is from my Grandfather back, all my predeccesors were very heavily involved in the Church of England. Whilst I dont understand it, I fully support their beliefs.

I do tend to get upset, when religion is used to denegrate others, or to use as a motivational tool to go into battle.
