The BA pipe is 3" in and then splits on the way out. The BF pipe is both 3" in and out therefore fitting a 3" cat is a simple cut and weld job, rather than making up a Y section etc for the BA pipe. The BF pipe apparently flows slightly better. I think people go for 3.5" cats on BA pipes for this reason in that they will get better flow into the Y section with a 3.5" rather than a 3"?? that's the only reasoning I can think of?

Cheers!

I have a 5 inch bodied cat , clearance is good, it all depends who fits it, you just have to slow down a bit over speed humps. why dont you just get a 4 inch dump pipe and a 4 inch inlet outlet metal cat, and have that tied into what ever exhaust you have. This will leave heaps of tuning options in the future. Arron

I would very much like a 4" dump but $$. With std BA XR6T internals I won't push much past 300rwkw's so there is very little point going a big dump considering my budget.

Arron is your 5" bodied cat on a 4" dump, cos if so I'm sure the 4" dumps sit slightly lower than the factory 3" and therefore making fitment of a 5" cat easier.

Cheers!

in that case your right not to change the dump, yes I have a 4 inch dump and it is possibly set lower.

There are some pics of a BF cat above.

Mmmm now I have to work out if a 5" cat with 3" ends will slot into this space?

I've ordered one of these 5" Catco cats and will be grafting it onto a BF down pipe so I'll keep people updated on this as not many are using this size on a 3".

The benefit of this is that the 5" cat already has 3" reducers so it's a simple cut and weld into a BF dump pipe. The 3.5" MetalCat on the other hand requires an exhaust dude to weld on some reducers...also 3" MetalCats are not readily available as far as I'm aware.

My tuner is away on holidays and I'm waiting on some induction parts anyway so these items won't be fitted for a while. However once done I'll be sure to post some pics and some details on performance gains. My valve springs are still std (BA MKII) but if I crack 300 I'll be stoked.

wont you be able to tuck it under the car kinda where the stock cat sits? there is plenty of room there, and the stock cat is a pretty bulky item!

where are you going to get it done? think I might go down this route too!

Yeah I discussed this with Michael from Bos Importing and we came to the conclusion that it should fit. I will cut most of the 3" pipe off the cat and then weld this to the down pipe on the engine side. It should just fit as the BF triangle cat is actually pretty big!! I'm surprised to hear that it doesn't flow more than the BA cat. Give me 4 or 5 weeks and I'll let you know how it goes! Based on my experience XR06T, get your hands on a cooler, CAI (pod), injectors & fuel pump, cat, and then have it tuned as this is the most cost effective way!

yea, that's the plan..

should get a clutch within the next month so around june maybe I'll have all the bits. have stockpiled injectors already, and will gradually add the rest to the pile as it comes in!
