Interesting thread, I actually spoke to Ford Customer Care yesterday about a warunty issue I was having and as an aside I was speaking to them about mods. My point is that more than half the ford dealers haven't got a hope in hell of fixing a complex performance problem as all they do is flash, and or replace a part.

My argument was this :

If ford are not able to fix my turbo boost / overboost problem I'll take it (at my cost) to a tuner and get the pcm custom tuned with a flash tuner. But, what about my extended warunty, will I void it by doing this?

Their answer:

Not entirely, if for example I hole a piston, then most likely yes I will NOT be covered by the wnty as they can argue that it was a DIRECT result of the tune..

Ahh, ok, what if my auto or diff drop their lunch? Different story, if it is clear that I have been abusing the car, usual tell tale signs, then no it will be declined. If there is no DIRECT proof of abuse then I am covered.

In short, same as insurance companies, disclose the mods and be smart if you have to make a claim ie: get the burnt rubber out from under the guards before you get it to ford to fix ya diff :P

So yea, I'll disclose my tune when I get one done, oh, by the way, it's the dealer you have to be nice to re: mods, it's not like they have to tell FMC that your car has been modded, and for any dealer work is work, they get paid by the hour :)

it's not like they have to tell FMC that your car has been modded.

They do now.

You'll find any suspect claims will result in an inspector coming to look at your car.

Adam is right and it has been like that for some time.

Quite some time, in particular if you have had it in for other related warranty issues. Also anything that is going to cost them a load will get an inspection.

Although in saying that they will also deny warranty if on the report a mod is stated, without doing an inspection, the mentality is that you modified the car therefore that is the cause and they just wash there hands and you have to fight them tooth and nail.

Just relaying what FMC told me regarding mods, and loads of peeps have mods that ford know about and still get wnty stuff done. I clarified this with the dealer that has been doing my wnty work (have had it in for some turbo issues and seat base etc) and he stated quite clearly that ya, no worries unless we can attribute the damage to mods not factory faults.

I'd be letting them know, everyone is an expert on the forums, make up your own mind my speaking to FMC and your dealer yourself and cut past the heresay. Not withstanding there are a number of avenue's outside of ford available to you if your disatisfied with the outcome of a wnty claim, same as with insurance.

If you don't disclose you are in breech of the wnty agreement and they are not oblidged to do jack diddly just like the insurance companies, nothing is wothout risk.

Thanks mate, and a happy xmas to you too, nice to be semi flamed by a moderator for pointing someone down the path of enlightening themselves by speaking directly to the organisation owning the warunty, I must be special...

I didn't see any flaming. :spoton:

I will admit I'm a little doubtful of Ford/your dealer actually following through on what you've been told. You only have to look around here to see that plenty of people have had warranty claims denied because of mods.

I know how the warranty system works and if you have edit and they know it and you break a gearbox or diff I'll bet it won't be covered under warranty.

Pop over to FFA, a few there with mods and no issues with wnty's after toasting diff's etc, everyone likes to complain (that's what forums are for !)

Lots of people don't disclose the entire truth when posting about bad experiances as they feel hard done by and can't admit they caused themselves more grief than not by their approach or the like.

Be informed, know your obligations and rights, exersise you right to escalate outside of the corporation.

My 240T is out of factory warunty, it's on extended now, and brake shudder isn't covered, I got my disks machined and pads replaced by ford last week, no charge.

Anyway, my point is just ask your dealer and Ford Care, they can clarify it without any further conjecture.
