As I said previously and savaged explained well. Pick an oil that suits your climate and engine mileage. If you are in a consistantly colder climate you want that oil to get around the engine as quick as pos. Therefor go for a low visc initial rating such as 0w or 5w.

To be honest I think a 10w 40w would be fine where ever you are. All good brand synth oils are high quality and if you change regularly enough you'll do fine with most types...................muncher

I'd say a good strategy might be to use say a 0/5/10W-40 in the cooler months, but for summer use the 10W-50 or a 10W-60, especially on big HP cars, stockers could just use the 40 all year.

I find the Motul 8000 which is a full ester based oil to be excellent, but it does not come in anything other than a 0W-40 I think. Penrite make some new full synthetics now (about bloody time) that go up to 60.
