Well maybe because I have big (wide) feet I use the left side of my right foot to brake and the right side to blip the go pedal as necessary. So it's not really using either the heel or the toe.

that's the way to do it..

Compared to previous cars ive driven.

The BA sucks for heel toeing because of the staggered pedals. You could modify your pedals...

BMW got it right :)

Well I am glad that a few people have had the same problem I have had! I can still heel toe, but it is more heel and middle of foot than the toe. I was wondering as the reviews in motor have raved about the pedals being well spaced - but I disagreed.

Yeah, it can still be done.

But im not a fat bastard with wide feet, so I dont really bother in this car.

If I was doing track days and stuff, id probably get my pedals modified.

But as it is, I only do hill runs with mates. No real need or urgency for heel/toeing..

I do plenty of track days and never find the need to heel/toe, the car has enough pull that you dont need to bring up the revs during changes... the pedals are crap for it anyway as you guys have pointed out

I agree. I only blip the throttle on downshifts.

same here but yeh I dont think the barge of a car makes a good track weapon to begin with in anycase.

I dont understand why people would want to heel toe a car that is clearly not designed for it.

First the clutch is not made to cope with those sort of forces which is why rally cars have a specially made clutch to do down shifts with.

Second it is horrible for your gearbox.

Most of us have good brakes (well we should) so use them and then pick the right gear at the end of either the corner or whatever and shoot off again.

my 2c.

Your comment has me guessing - I really don't think you have a clue what "heel and toe" is.

Firstly, what does it do to the clutch? Secondly what effect does it have on the gearbox?

Fact is that the very essence of heel toe downshifts is to ease pressure on the clutch. If done correctly it also takes pressure off the syncros because matching engine revs to vehicle speed lightens the load on the syncros because it is speed matching that the syncros would have to do otherwise. Same thing for the clutch.

The driving technique that you suggest, ie. use your brakes to slow down, then turn corner, then select a gear, then drive on, is quite franky downright poor at best and dangerous at worst. If that is how you drive please don't ever invite me as a passenger in your car. Especially on a race track!

Downshifting is down right uncomfortable and slow when you dont bring up the revs to componsate for gearing.
