And further to that, with all the focus on the Arabs and/or Muslims, someone's forgetting to tell the Australian public (namely John Howard) that the IRA are terrorist too, with their reign of terror going on for decades, and they're freaken Catholics!

My point is more that if they're going to ride roughshod over the Generva convention (which they are) then they're more than happy to do similar to it's own citizens (which they are), though having said that, even the US Supreme court has found the conduct of such military tribunals as illegal.

I'm sure I could go on and on about my dislike for the "Patriot Act" and all that it entails but suffice to say that we agree on this point.

Merely because a C-Grade puppet with an agenda of fear has found some pitiful and disgusting excuse to class these people as something other than POW's, doesn't mean they shouldn't be classified as such. David Hicks is a case in point, too complicated to go into here however.

I do agree that if we (being the coalition of the erm..willing? ) are at "war" (consistantly used throughout press releases, media appearances, addressing Congress or Parliment, etc..) that they should indeed be classified as P.O.W. there's no doubt about that.

The thing that bugs me is that they're skirting the issue by keeping them at gitmo which even though it is a U.S. military (Marine Corp primarily but under the Navy) base and under lease (Naturally Cuba denounced that under Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties) from the Cuban government which means that it really isn't considered U.S. soil by those holding the "detainees" there. Go figure.

Guantanamo Bay has always been an installation that has intrigued me, I understand it was a US naval base long before the Cuban Revolution? The interesting one is all these other non-acknowledged camps, similar to Guantanamo Bay Detention Center but secret, yet ANOTHER thing prohibited by the Geneva Convention.

well according to the reponse in that letter one can only assume that the detainee in question is a terrorist or suspected terrorist.

I personally know and have great respect for many moslems, however there are extremists in all creeds and cultures. I have been in London when the security measures were being exercised due to IRA, full body and bag checks, not a bin to be found any where. Many historic sites could not be visited for this reason.

ITs real lumpy and best to be on the side of caution. as for Howard .. well its almost embarrassing, what ever bush says goes for him with that silly grin on his face.
