yes yes its been discussed before but that was AGES ago when the edit was in its early days..

now that scm V3 software and all is out I want honest opinions "would the ems be as good as the edit?"

I mean this in a EMS ONLY application, not with edit combined.

what are the advantages, if any?

for outright power and perfomance its a stand alone ecu with live tuning and in compotent hands of a good tuner it should be better to give you a quick time but would takke a shyte load more dyno time to get it all right

yeah I understand live tuning would be a huge benefit and a huge time saver, less labour time equals more money in your wallet too.

but does ems do gearbox settings to such as diff ratio's and similar?

I've used the EMS 8860 quite alot on a Turbo ED and basically can get the car to drive better than the stock computer with heaps better economy. The EMS8860 is now compatible (I think) with the BA where as before only the Stinger was

The EMS 8860 now has a auto tune feature which allows a very accurate tune, especially around the cruise areas.

For the DIY definately. If you pay to get it done make sure the installer/tuner knows the computer totally, not just has installed a couple.

But it cant do the diff ratio

I think the main problem with a different ems is the stock ECU controls EVERYTHING in the car with TC and ABS and CC etc etc... if an EMS was to be truly effective and worth it, they need to be able to take over from the stock ECU altogether. Otherwise it will only ever be a piggy back system.

dw....the 8860 now is and both have the tune feature you mention

dw....accurate everywhere through the rev/load range

For the DIY definately. If you pay to get it done make sure the installer/tuner knows the computer totally, not just has installed a couple.

dw....the only tuners to install ems succesfully are v/e rigoli, g/tech with my help and yours trully!!!

But it cant do the diff ratio

the ems is great to prove a point to get the best out of what you have etc but for best results use it with edit to do the other functions!!!
