unfortuante as these job losses are, there were ways of getting rid of people before IR reform

True, but it's the manner in which they were introduced which is cause for concern. There was no mention of IR reforms prior to the last election. It was always John Howard's intention of changing the IR laws, but he never had the support in the senate. Fair enough if JH went to the election stating that he would do away with almost all the safety nets that 'average' workers enjoy....in the national interest of course.

You should be your own saftey net, if you are a good employee, you will be an asset to your boss not a liability as so many people are. So we should revert back to the 3 warning system? Somewhere in the middle is the answer. How many jobs are not filled, sh*t I went thru 12 labourers in six months because they believe that I should kiss the ground that they walk on.

ps : my labourers take home over $1200/ week and they work hard for it.

These laws now enable me to piss off the "timewasters" that previously were untouchable.

its a shame that we have to take the good with the bad, the same laws that allow employers to make a far more efficient team also allow some employers to discriminate against workers who are doing the right job and should be given a fair go. at the end of the day when a company does not have to support slack arses in teh work place it makes a far cheaper product or service in the end, and who benefits from that WE ALL DO. Unfortuanlty like in every aspect of life you cant have your cake and eat it to. Atleast in this country we have welfare and workers componsation setup. Compare it to overseas countries where they have none of this, u dont work, u dont live. Simple as that. Believe me, we as australians live in a very lucky country comparitive.

$1200 a week take home. Can I come and work for you? Were are you?

Three of years ago,the buisness I work for got a new owner. He said he didn't want to change anything.that's fine,I was happy.

Well I lost my leave loading because he never got it.Sick days no longer roll over(dont care too much about that,as only taken about 4 in 3 years)

And he is ripping me off on super.

I am a loyal employee.4 others have come and gone and I'm still there.

No pay rises, and I'm now doing 5 times as much work as when he started.

He added 75% to our monthly targets to get bonuses(allmost impossible now)And said "he would look after us if we hit it.Well we exceeded it and got an extra $50 for the best month ever. What a joke.

Try to talk to him about any it and just get lies.

Says were not making enough money.Just brought his forth luxury car in 3 years.(ML500,BMW 318i,Lexus 4Wd and brand new maloo R8)

I have no problem with him being succesfull, but I'm sick of his excuses"I'd like to pay you more".Well no ones stoping you.

Also nothing is on paper and he keeps just making up new conditions as we go along.

Any advice?

I've had enough.

He was never leagally obligated to pay you leave loading if you were 17% or more above the award. Super, well its the law and he will get f*cked over by the ato. Everything he does must have a paper trail. I dont and never will condone RIPPING employees off, or doing any thing illegal but im all for paying people what they are worth. If hes like you say and as a work force u guys make and exceed stupid budgets, then get together with the other guys and start on your own. Take all his workforce and all of his clients. For the record, they guys that do right by me are rewarded very well those that dont, dont make one week. I will never ask any one to do anything that im not prepared to do, that said I will dig holes if I have to but now my labourers do it for me. ( I have my degree in shovel with a masters in jackhammer) ps for $1200 take home they work about 58-62 hrs/week.

Jeezuz whaddid I start ere... :stirthepot:

My opinion is if you are worth your chop you will get paid what "you" want. Bad luck if you are unskilled, you should have done the work earlier on in life instead of pissn and drugn through your teens.

I managed to get all of it done....and still have a few braincells left(only a couple Tab)

My 2 cents

Capitalist Johno

Before you speculate to much Johno have you thought that maybe that 4% might be worth a week of your wages to me...... :spoton:

Not that it is

MIAC8 Toolmaker/CNC programmer/CAD Draftsman with 6years as a shift supervisor I think I'm pretty qualified....

Did the drugn 'n' pissn :msm: as well.....braincells are overated anyway....

The 4% I can live with but the 90odd blokes that work under me are all on the border line of better off being on the dole than slugging it out running dirty ass gridley chuckers all day long, some of the guys are on 16 dollars an hour trying to support a family and pay a morgage. The company then offers that upto them when not six months ago they bought out lock stock and barrel over thirty machines from a company closing down in Sydney 4 of which we recieved the rest in storage awaiting the expansion of there factory in China to 5 times it current size.

It's not really about the increase in wages though, I'm more worried about the fact there trying to rip away all the OT penalties from us and after reading this thread many others seem to be in the same boat.

my staff got an average 20% pay increase this year and we did not remove any conditions.  Staff are my most important asset, so I want to keep them.

Zap

If you ever need an over qualified toolmaker-shift supervisor with plenty of tech savvy but no IT qualifications I know a bloke.....likes the T's as well from what I've heard....

Do you reall believe that the "bosses" are sacking the good/valuable people? I have woked on wages, salary and for my self. The most coin I make is working for my self. I look after my good staff but im compleatly ruthless to the timewasters out there. These laws now enable me to piss off the "timewasters" that previously were untouchable. I agree that the new laws have over compensated for the previous crap laws. I have had an employee who was charged with fraud (workcover rip off at my expense) and under previous law I couldn't sack him. I will pay any one that works for me the minium that they will accept to be content in thier job, why should I pay them more? This country will go down the plug if we dont buck up and start producing. I agree with previous comments that everybody should be on production based contracts. If you produce u get paid, if u dont then u starve. This will encourage people to strive to be better. Im sick of people saying  "its all right for you, you earn 6 figures plus" get over yourself for a second, where the fark were you when I was working 80+ hrs/week to stay afloat. Yeah I would stack boxes if I had to, suck it up work is work. We have a bad case of " the world owes me" in austrailia, well guess what I owe u nothin, I will pay my way just like any ABLE body worker should. (sick and elderly is a different matter)

Couldnt have said it better myself :stirthepot:

Overtime? Penalty Rates? :spoton: If only

It’s good to see that there are so many level-headed people on this forum. :stirthepot:

Sorry to hear of your predicament though Daggy, but a stagnant job is better than the company folding and you ending up on the street.

So Zap if your business went down tomorrow the first thing you would do is go and wash dishers or pack boxes etc. I doubt it, you haven`t worked all your life to get some where to finish up as cheap labour in a factory(that's the advise you gave lumpen, he had his own business was his own boss and whatever happen now his looking for a job so he should just lower his standard and get a job that will pay him $350 a week and  work alongside the other 16 year old drop outs.)

Nothing personal here Zap, we`ve chatted before  , but like everything theres always 2 sides to the coin. The boss who wants bigger profits and the employee who just wants a decent wage to provide for his family. The nsw & vic state govermnt have advised they won`t be implementing I.R on there staff as they beleive it to be unfair,There are bosses that also care about there workers and  just as it doesnt effect me refuse to implement these reforms on there workers.

I would take any job I could to keep my family housed and fed. This is what I am trying to say. I am not suggesting that LP sweep streets for the rest of his life, but to get ANY job now and keep looking for a job that will give him a challange or career. Then he will be

A: working

B: not on the dole

C: feel better as he is contributing to the workforce

D: motivated

E: have a better chance of getting a better job as he can say he is currently employed.

It is all about keeping yourself employed and looking forward to better yourself.

There are so many jobs out there that are not being filled by Generation Y because they feel they should start at the top. The changes the governement have made with the Dole is great as it will force people to find any job or loose some of the $'s. I am sick of paying for people to smoke drugs and surf on the dole. Our welfare system is WAY to generous. Did you know that for every $1 we pay in tax that $0.42 is paid out in welfair ? Welfair should be only for people who cannot support themselves and not for lazy people.

Stang, I do not take offence, I am always interested in the other point of views on this subject as my view is pro IR reform.

Couldn't agree with you more on that point Zapper. Take the humble kitchen hand/steward for example, it was always the starting point for someone looking to become a chef - not anymore. School leavers would rather sit on their arse for a couple of years waiting for an apprenticeship than actually start working 'at the bottom' straight away.

Advertise something with 'manager' or 'supervisor' in the title and get ready for the onslaught. Mostly from people with no experience in the lower ranks though unfortunately!
