Hello,

Anyways, took my XR6 Turbo (BA original) into the dealership for a service and for them to fix my heating. They have to pull out the dash for that, so that's nice and fortunatly under warrenty.

Anyways, I got a call from them saying that I have to replace my front pads and rotors. I have the Premium Brakes and the quoted price they gave me was $1800 for front rotor and pad change.

I understand that I have to replace the pads, but the bloke who called said that the mechanic noticed a little "bobble" (whatever the hell that is, and no not the game) on one of the rotors and they said both front rotors have to be changed. Thus, the $1800 quote. I obviously said no and will be taking it to the mechanic we use for the other cars. If indeed it will cost $1800 (which I doubt), I'd rather pay the family mechanic rather than the dealership.

I haven't noticed any brake shuddering, vibration, pulse or anything that would suggest that the rotors have to be replaced. The cars only gone 67,000km and it's in Canberra, so not exactly alot of braking involved on the average trip around town.

What are some prices people have paid for a similar thing (2 front rotors + 2 pads and grooved premium brakes)?

BTW, good to be back on these forums. It's been a while.

I Paid $234 each for dba slotted premium rotors and around $190 for ebc pads.

I got them from a company called HIGHTEK brakes.

a member on here called BRC01 deals in brakes he's worth sending a PM as his prices are very good.

hope this helps

I've got some DBA 4000 series Clubman rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads for sale, for probably a 1/4 of what you've been quoted if your interested.

Hey KrasH,

My premiums lasted 67,000kms around Canberra and surrounds too, was pretty happy with that.

I ended up getting some PBR slotted rotors. They are the same rotor as the ford one except for slotted vs grooved, and are a hell of a lot cheaper.

PM BCR01 for some info.

Welcome back Krash. Not too surpised on the price of the BA Premium rotors, knew they were exxy. Even though they are made by PBR you can only buy those actual rotors (the eliptical grooved ones) from Ford. As others have suggested, you can buy a lot cheaper the aftermarket equivalents from brake shops or parts shops such as REPCO (PBR brand, same size but slotted instead of eliptical groove). The complete "kit" with 4 discs and calipers will cost around the same as what Ford are quoting you for 2 genuine discs. Depends if originality matters and how much money you want to spend. Sometimes you see the original grooved discs on eBay, I bought some for my car on there, cost around $1200 from memory but came with the calipers as part of the deal. You could always resell the calipers or keep them for spares.

Warranty will cover your your Rotors>> dont let them tell you different !!!!!!! not your pads though but if you b**ch hard enough they will replace them too .. 68K that's ridiculous.

that's if you have warranty....

If not get them skimmed by ure brake shop and throw a set of bendix ultimates on it ....

Cheapest way out...

If you ordered premium brakes from factory, you should have got a spare alloy.

The 16" steelie can't fit over the front brakes...
