You really should have put in a maybe or depends option.

Nuclear is a great way to produce a lot of energy quickly and easily, but you've got the waste that you need to get rid of.

Plus if anything goes wrong you've got a big problem. As long as it is done properly with no shortcuts at all it'd probably be ok...

Like I said, as long as ya dont crash it...

The waste is produced from enriching the raw product to a usuable state.... We could do all the enrichment in NZ or Tasmania, those types of places where people dont live .............

Australia has one of the worlds top 10 largest empty land masses. Yep, in the middle of Aus is a big arse desert...

Now, we also have a fairly successful mining industry (don't go there please...) with the right equipment to bore very large and very deep holes in places such as, the desert.

Where do you store chemical waste? In tripple sealed containers out of harms way...

Ooer! I know a great, uninhabitable place just like that!

...

Nuclear waste problem solved....

Since no one can, or ever will live there, why not make use of it? All these idiots saying how dangerous it is :jerkit: are the same people who failed practical science... IN THIRD GRADE.

They ave absolutely NO IDEA on how it works or what is involved. They are just ignorant plebs trying to get on TV. Sad, but true.

Sorry, its the whole 'I can't stand idiots' anger coming out again...

I'm in favour of it as an eventuality but...

We've got billions of tons of easily got steaming and coking coal that earn the country and its workers and therefore the economy billions of A$.

Sure, the greenhouse and other environmental issues are important for us all as we go forward as well.

Wind power requires massive capital for what it generates so it's effective input in Oz will be minimal. Its also very noisey and is a scab on the landscape.

Solar may be effective but will also require thousands of hectares coverage and again the capital expenditure will be massive.

There are fledgling technologies existing that are aiming at fossil fueled power generation that do not generate CO2.

Lets remember we are a tiny nation population wise so we should let the larger richer nations do all the development work on alternatives and Nuclear waste disposal while we try to get a good earn.

All for it - leave more fossil fuels to use in Internal Combustion Engines too!

Here's a really interesting site on the Chernobyl Disaster:

http://www.chernobyl.co.uk/

Makes you realise what a cockup it all was and that they are actually very safe if you have adequate cooling enabled and use the control rods properly!

I also agree with Lawsy's waste management strategy.

Agreed trev, but have you seen the deisel fuel bill for an open cut coal mine.. Makes the mind boggle...

Australia also has the largest uranium deposits in the world also..

Problem is Uranium miners, developers, scientist and energy covertors need to be a little bit smarter than coal miners, shovellers, truck drivers and front end loader operators to load the burners.... Trouble will be finding enough smart people in this country to excavate, derive, develop, and operate uranium plants...

Yep there would be lots of good ole aussies sitting in pubs talking about the good ole days of coal, whilst foreign students run our once less than glamourous, power industry.

I also agree with Lawsy's waste management strategy.

If Geo Dynamics can drill a hole 5ks deep to get an energy source than they could drill one to dump the waste as well....I'm with Lawsy, the only people knocking are the ones that know f*ck all...

Guess so.....after all, they already have 11 fingers, 2 heads and 3 eyes. Nuclear fallout could only help them

that's it, a bit of fallout and nobody would ever noticed... And if they got trapped in underground mines they would glow and could see what they were doing until they got rescued...

Then they'd make 2.5 million bucks each for giving their exclusive survival stories to CNN. It's a win win for everyone!
