It shouldn't make it go harder as the F6 only gets its extra boost from the lower restrictions in the intercooler and airbox, the ECU doesn't bring the boost up, it just doesn't lose as much boost through the intake as the XR6T does.

Rubbish the F6 Typhoon and Tornado DO HAVE MORE COMMANDED BOOST in the programming

I read & this on another ford forum which I found quite informative (can't remeber members details sorry):

Q. Will the Typhoon pcm programming work in a BA XR6T 4sp auto?

A. Yep sure will,, but what you wanna do is put an edit on it, goto www.intunemotorsport.com and have a look at the flash tuners, remember, the ECU in the BA/BF is a big system and capable of alot, by the SCT flashtuner and get a custom edit created, they come with pretty decent standard edits, but if you want big power, change your injectors, and fuel pump, spend some money (duh) and get a custom dyno tune individually suited to your car, best thing is you can reflash it back to stock in 5 seconds, then reload your edit in the same amount of time. look into it.. this is a serious ECU editor, this is what the ford range has lacked until now, think LS1EDIT for ford and alot more powerful.

Q2. How much can high can I edit the mapping before I need further engine mods?

A. Just get a custom 8psi, it will make around 300kw and is safe as houses. Fuel consumption won't change unless you live in the boost all day long (which I know you don't judging by your aims at small gains).

I average 10s on the highway and 12s for city with 240rwkw (300kw), car feel exactly the same, but when on boost its about 20% more pull.

If you aim for only a few kw you won't even feel it, and on a hot day with the a/c on you'll more or less feel normal. So you'll waste your money.

Bascially, the lowest tune you can get is a custom 8psi, anything lower is stock so you migh as well send me all your money instead. It would be just as useful. Trust me, cutom 8psi is every bit as good as a custom 10 only it revs all the way out to 6250rpm instead of running out of fuel at 5000rpm and dieing in the arse.

It won't hurt the auto and the intercooler, valve springs, and injectors will cope fine.

cheers guys, Sounds like an edit is the way to go, now for which one to go for???

I'll look up the xtreme for that one.

but intersting that you can 300kw with 8psi and that the typhoon gets only 270kw with using 9psi.

that's an easy one to answer and it explains how the XR^ can have a 'flat' torque 'curve'. The XR6 runs on 6psi but only makes that at a low 2500rpm, by 5500rpm its only using 4psi or less. The F6 runs on 9psi but only makes that at a low 2500rpm, by 5500rpm its only running on 6psi.

The edit makes 8psi at 2000rpm and is still making 8psi or a little more at 5500rpm. Same goes for the 10psi, only it takes until 3500rpm to build 10psi with stock induction and exhaust system.

You have basically double the boost up top with edit, and 30% more than the F6 at the same speed. Cool huh?

ok I did some logging on the weekendand it definately gives me more boost it spikes to about 9 and levels off to 7 and as for the ivct I couldn't really tell the cams had different advance but I compared it to the standard software and the cams were different as well. the only reason I put this software on was because it didn't cost me anything, I would still like to get rid of the oil light.

cobrav8

said most likely that Ford put the oil light on - as a warning light to reflect the 'wrong' flash based on the vehicles vin #.

the only thing is when you manually flash the computer you loose the vin number stored in the computer so it doesn't have one anymore, maybe that could be usefull for the capa software to program more than one car at a time.

I also test drove a xr6 manual in brisbane and had same thing. His an ex ford mechanic, and explained that the typhoon uses a different sensor to the xr. And the light is just working I reverse eg: if oil pressure drops it should turn off.

I have had to do some digging.....

its just hard to find any info regarding this issue.

the 04 xr I test drove is going into ford for a prepurchase inspection tomorrow.

Hopefully I dont loss the tune .I guess if I do a custom tune wont be far away.
