How Much Power Do I Want

Featured Replies

#1

Hi,

I have a mkII 6sp with Centre Muffler removed and 2nd CAI running the generic 10psi Map and waiting delivery of a stronger clutch.

I am looking to get a custom Tune and not sure how much power I want. I'm thinking 245-260rwkw??

My requirements are:

Increase in Torque over the Generic 10psi tune

Tuned at a safe level with stock Injectors

I basically dont want to end up with something that I cannot handle. Would like peoples comments on how it is on the road things like:

- straight line traction 1st & 2nd gear

- Wet and Slippery conditions I understand not to flog it in the wet but what about light foot accelerations, Does the power catch you unexpectidly.

I guess I'm just worried about the car being too uncontrollable or to powerfull. Having said that I thought the generic 10psi was but am now well used to it

Thanks alot

Aidan

You might want to take it somewhere for a power run first. You might be surprised.....

C'mon guys in all seriousness.

I'm after comments from people with 240kw-280kw level:

- straight line traction 1st & 2nd gear (do the tyres loose grip - how much, doesw it step out on you)

- Wet conditions, does the boost come on unexpectidly on light throttle

thanks

It's hard to say.

Alot of it will come down to how it's tuned and how the boost is brought in. If boost comes in hard low down then traction will be a problem.

Your tuner should be able to set it up how ever you want it.

My car (BA MkII 6-speed manual) stock made 209rwkw; a custom tune with a stock setup it made 260.9rwkw. AFR's were at 12.0's at peak rpm. You can have your car tuned so the traction control remains enabled. I have my 340rwkw custom tune with tcs enabled for times when it is wet.

My suggestion is talk to your tuner.

Mine will break traction in 1st gear - its steps out, but in a very predictable way.

In 2nd gear, no.

In the wet, I drive it pretty easy and show the car some respect. I cant say the boost ever comes on unexpectedly. You get to know your car and know what its limits are.
