If all motorcyclist used a commonsense approach to this I wouldn't mind. The problem is they don't. I've seen bikes split between cars whilst the traffic is doing 70+kmph. I've also had cars damaged by bikes in stationary traffic and then they ride off. If I'm at the front at a set of lights and see a bike coming inbetween lanes I'll edge forward as 9 times out of 10 I'll be leaving the lights quicker then them.

I think it's a good idea to ban it as it takes a grey area out of the law.

RANT ON

Some unusual responses there and I must say im suprised by alot of them, every one has thier right to an opinion and when your here welcome to express it, but I was still suprised.

Given that this is a Performance car forum, with most of the information relating to improving the cars we love, it seems to me to go hand in hand with other performance vehicels. BIKES.

but thier seems to be alot of anti bike guys here, The bloke you speak of who lane split then dawdle off at a snail pace crap me too, but for the most the get out of the way.

It is a small amount of dicks who are usually on late 1000cc jap bikes who like to form a rolling raod block so they can pop a mono for 100m that sh*t me, I hope and pray each time I see one, he will flip it, there is a time and aplace for that sh*t, and traffic isnt the place, go to a track day, find a private road, go to an industrial area on a sunday, it isnt hard, small brains, small dicks and big bikes.

I have had a bike licence since I was allowed, almost 20 years, I have had a road bike for the most of it, 900ss, ZZR1100, CBR900, FZR750, etc etc along with a sh*t load of Dirt bikes, I lane split, only if I am going to get to the front, and only if there is room to do it. I havnt ever hit a car, and I doubt I have ever held anyone one up once the lights go green.

I have seen similar things happen to the shooting sport, a law change will be bought in that only affects a small group,

First it was semi auto rifles, the shot gunners, hunters and pitol shooter on the most said who cares, only the military sporting shooter will loose out, and I dont care.

Then it was the shot gunners, they lost semi auto and pump guns, all the other groups said, who cares.

pistols were next, big bore, high mag capacity etc etc, and most siad, they didnt support us in our struggle, so phuck them.

Divide and concour, it works well for the Govt. I am sure if in the same law a mention was made of limiting power outputs to 10% max over factory or similar, we would all be up in arms screaming for blood, but its only bike, and most here dont ride bikes, so who cares.

Do you think the bike riders will suport us when its out turn to take it in the arse from a druconian Goverment who wish to rule our every action.

over the past ten years I have been well and truely phucked over, I have lost semi auot rifles, pump action shotties, my high cap .40 cal pitol, my 44mag revolver, the right to ride my jetski within 500m of a surf beach, the right to ride in sydney harbour, the right to carry a pocket knife, or take a gun and ammo through a national park. this is just the start, every single passtime I enjoy has had major law changes to make it Safer, or stamp it out all together.

PHUCK ME, when will we learn to stand up, tell the Govt to piss of and mind thier oven buisiness, I am sick of it, no wonder people go above the law and do wht they like.

The new national ID card will be the same, sold to us a way of track terrorists, dole cheats and illeagle imigrants, it will track your every movement, how much money you put in the bank, where you go on holidays, I know they can do this now, but this card will tie it all together for the Govt.

"hey mister, your buisiness only made 20k last year, but you wnet oversea three times and bought a new ski boat and 4wd",mmmmm how does that add up, hey tax man, come look at this guy. don't think it will happen, ha.

Get used to it.

I have lost a close mate recently who was a motorcyclist.

I also currently have another good friend who has one shattered shoulder, and two broken arms whilst also riding his bike.

Both these accidents were not the motorcyclists fault.

Both of these accidents occured at intersections.

Here's a thought for lane splitters.

If you stuck with the main pack, wouldnt it be safer? If you are waaay out in front, all by your lonesome, you will have to agree with me, there is more chance of you getting cleaned up. If you obey the rules, and stick within the peakhour bunch of cars, there is a lot less chance of somebody cutting you off or cleaning you up.

The average motorist/public servant has a lot more chance of seeing a pack of 20 cars, with a motorcyclist buried deep in there somewhere, and giving way, then seeing one solitary motorbike with a pack of cars not that far behind him...... that average public servant/motorist will want to pull out in front and cross the intersection/get ahead of the pack, and clean the lane splitter motorcyclist up in the process.

Think about it.

if your in a pack of cars on a bike your always in somebodys blind spot and when there is a 1 car gap acar driver will always take it to save them selves a whole ten metres. I've been run off the road twice by cars doing that and personally find it a lot safer to be riding out front away from traffic you just have to have your common sense about you and ride on the otherside of the lane(s) that the traffic will be coming in from. There is more accidents at lights by cars hitting the car in front or bike then bikes splitting and hitting mirrors it seriously doesnt affect car drivers ppl just get jealous that bikes can get to their destination twice as quick. If its that much of a big deal get a bike yourself. Its just like going off at all car drivers because a select few cant drive or dont follow the rules.

Or truckies.

Conform or be conformed.

I'd much rather have a bike lane split me at the lights and be where I can see them than back in my blind spot.

Good one mickie, makes alot of sense

Every bike prang I had,the car drivers all said,I didnt see you :nono:

And it's true,I was about 18 had my bike, was bike aware, went through an intersection in the van, next minute, wooosh,WTF :nono: A guy on a bike went flying past,I didn't see him...

that's the trouble,a bike can blend in with the background, motorists just have a quick glance and go for it,then the bike comes along ,like the Goose in mad max

vik...sliding on his arse :laughing::gooff::nono:

Thanks Vik, that's my point.

Visibility.

And my mate who has two broken arms was the one who shed the light on the whole lane splitting scenario.

Poor bastard, my mate, can't do anything. Two broken arms, cant talk on the phone, cant eat, cant shower, cant even wipe his own @ss. I feel so sorry for him, I really do. And the chick that hit him? Sorry, didnt even see you.

I ride a road bike, and agree that theres alot of cockhead riders out there.I obay the rules most of the time but now and then I will lane hop to the front of the lights but only very slowly and in the left lane.I dont agree with some riders that hoot down the centre lane of traffic or lane split at higher speeds.

My 2 cents
