Just got a quote in hobart for the APS stage 1 kit (unichip, new injectors, boost control and a dyno tune) for $2500, but I then went on the APS site and they do it for $1650 (dynoed)!

Also I was told not to get either a high flow cat or a larger intercooler cause both enhancments will cause boost spike? I thoght that both of these enhancements would help the engine not to work as hard and help not hinder?

Any opinions??

hi, if he is your only tunner down there he prob feels he can charge what ever he wants, that price would not worry me if it was a tunner with the runs on the board, and you know your getting the best. problem is when you are a bit out of the way, is that you can pay high, and still be someones ginipig. my personal choice would be to go for a short holiday over to Melb, and get a quality tune,

it can be a problem with boost spike when you fit a intercooler and hi flow cat,

but it can be over come, although it is a bit harder with the pigyback type tunes.

in the end it depends how much confidence you have in your tuner.

yeah dont think that I want the unichip piggyback system, I was thinking more along the lines of the capa flash?

What do you think is best? He told me that not many ppl know how to use the flash properly and that's why he doesnt use it??

Mate, I wouldn't worry about the unichip....

Too many guys here will attest to the best bang for bucks gains you'll make with the Edit plus a set of custom tunes.

You're in Tassie, so I wouldn't be too worried about an IC in the first instance.

You should get enough change from the $2500 quote to cover the cost of the ferry and a few nights at the Crowne Casino Complex.

Add a set of 968 injectors with your Edit custom tune, and you'll be over the moon with the adrenalin rush. You'll be pulling 12's with NO effort. :spoton:

Unichip, injectors, boost controler and tuned was always about $2500. A unichip by itself is $1650.

yep.

SCT/CAPA/EDIT/FLASH tune.... all same .... It's a method of modifying the actual map in the Ford factory ECU. A good tuner can make fantastic power gains with simply a remapping of tables for your car on the dyno.

The Edit Box, stores the original tune, plus 3 extra maps which are configurable. It takes only a few minutes to load a different map into the car via the OBD diagnostic port located in your fuse box.

Typical tunes are:

valet mode -

low boost, rpm limited to prevent service personel (or kids) from thrashing the car

street map - for everyday use, good safe power for everyday / all weather conditions.

race map - where you give the tuner the freedom to wave his magic wand and set the car up for specific racing application.... higher peak power, slightly leaner AFR settings, set for better quality fuel (octane booster/race fuel)

But you can request a specific tune for your needs .... eg if you do a lot of towing?

or circuit racing or whatever. Tell the tuner what you want to do.

cheers
