Specification Differences

I've noticed that the specification/features of the XR6T are different between the two markets - although there is a price point difference between the two countries.

Typically, in NZ the vehicles have many items that are options in Australia -included in the base specification or as no cost options.

In NZ - The ZF six speed is a no-cost option on the XR6T over the T56, the side airbags are standard as is cruise control and the 'prestige' six pack CD player with the steering wheel controls - whereas in Australia these are all extra cost options.

It's similar with the Territory where the rear cargo blind, the 6 stack CD and cruise, body painted bumpers, alloy wheels were standard in the TX model from the get go in the SX version but extra cost options in Australia.

Interestingly, the only RWD variant (and therefore the only one with the Ion 4 Speeder is the base model TX RWD). All the rest of the range are AWD - which is quite different from Australia where over half of the sales are RWD only.

My BF XR6T arrived last week with the iDesign Luxury Pack... suffice to say it's more tasteful than the tyre tread upholstery in the standard trim. The ZF transmission is outstanding and the DSC seems to be reasonably well tuned so it doesn't interfere until you are giving it the stick... and you can turn it off.

There's also news that Expensive Daewoo will continue to sell the Gen II 5.7 litre engine in the NZ spec of the SS Late model camira after the New Year. Although, Australian Expensive Daewoo V8s will change over to a truck based 6 litre Euro III compliant engine, the NZ MD indicated that by the time that they would be ready to go in NZ, then VE would be due (and NZ doesn't require compliance with the new ADRs).

The new 6 litre engine IS NOT the same engine as the HSV/Corvette but one based on a 'commercial vehicle' ie it comes out of a US pick up truck. This isn't as bad as it sounds... the engine for the GT40 and for that matter the Falcon GT are based on truck blocks (the GT40 engine is uncannily similar to the supercharged F150 Lightning). It's also supposed to have more mid-range torque where most of the driving is done...

All aussie falcons since the AU Series 1 have had the steering wheel controls for stereo. On the BA MKI, anything above an XT had cruise control, and ever since BA MKII its been standard across the range.

that's interesting. Are holdens sold in NZ speced up to similar levels? How much did you pay for your BF in NZ?

Cruise control is standard on XR6T's here in Australia. Steering wheel controls for the radio/cd player are standard for every BA/BF Falcon.

With good discounting you could get a BA Mk2 for $50k resonably easily. Not sure if this has changed for BF.

I think you will find that Ford do not want to custom build cars for export, so they send them to NZ already loaded, but fewer choices in options.

Its no different here in Oz for imports, they usually have much less options than if you bought the car in europe or japan where they are made. You can get the mega poverty pack base model merc in germany, yet not in oz.

It just makes selling the cars overseas easier.

l think he is probably quoting NZ$ prices so its about lineball. l agree with Zap, reducing the options down is a smart move on an imported car. All the Aussie importers of Japanese cars do it, putting options together in packages to reduce variations.

Side airbags should be standard, l have driven in NZ many times and you Kiwis need all the protection you can get

For my 6/04 ute I paid $41600 with scuff inserts,dual airbags,6disc,floor matts,sports bar,tow bar,custom red leather seats and door trims,mudspats,GT-P steering wheel, light and bonnet protectors , upgrade alarm and a full tank . and that's on the road with business rego!

It hepls when you tell them how much your going to pay ,not them tell you how much your going to fork out.

Retail prices - $57,990 NZ is about $53,055 Aus

I got Custom Pack seats and Momo steering wheel, registered, taxes etc 3 full tanks and a loan car while waiting for the car to arrive - $50,000 NZ - $45,745 Aus

I agree though - expensive trip to NZ. I guess Ford NZ want a profit, shipping, etc
