hey

Just wondering if the full APS exhaust along with a 2nd CAI and a tuned edit would be effective mods or would the exhaust be a waste of time / money. Reason being I don't want to do any major mods a the moment but would like a bit deeper exhaust note when I do get it custom tuned. Thought there might be a few others out with similar mods or lookin to do aomething similar. Also the APS exhaust will be good for any further mods down the track. Will I need to upgrade valve springs for a tuned 10psi map? Any thoughts and ideas appreciated

the APS exhaust is about (if not) the best exhaust there is.... will cope with any mods you can throw at it

Absolutely no reason why this would not work. - I basically have this engine set up plus injectors and valve springs (all about to change) - which all works well.

Extreme F6 is correct though - tuner will need to ensure the tune is within the limits of the standard injectors - these will be the limiting factor power wise - so do not expect to get much more power than would be acheived with edit alone - of course it will sound horn, and will provide a good platform should you wish for more!

If you are after more power for the same dollars - injectors would definitely be a better investment!

Good luck!!!!!

No probs with APS gear and EDIT.

The APS exhaust flows with low back pressure, which allows the turbo to run more efficiently and also helps to minimise problems with valve flutter at higher boost levels.

The full stainless steel system looks magnificent, and provides a subtle performance tone. It is a pleasant sound, throaty under full throttle, but unobtrusive with no resonant oscillations. It is NOT loud though. It complies with noise limits, which in my opinion, makes it exceptional as it is one of the best flowing exhausts you can buy.

It ain't cheap though, and I wasn't aware you could buy it on its own.

On a bang for buck point of view..... the EDIT + IC + injectors will give you more value.

(just my opinion)

Have been running APS Phase II at around 280RWKW and then was edited yesterday. After the epic pantomime of a completely dead car resulting in it being towed to the dealer to have original software re-loaded the car is now Edit with Unichip together. Edit software is pretty average in terms of its code and useability and Unichip provides much higher resolution for more stable and finer tuning. In all honesty right now I cannot see or feel any real difference in performance between Phase II and Edit - sure you can fiddle with line pressures etc but I already have the gearbox modded. If you are after a stealth tune with no other mods on your car then I can appreciate that Edit provides the cheapest and quickest way to go but there are some horror stories out there too - pick your tuner very carefully and ensure a careful custom tune takes place as well. In terms of torque, power, AFRs etc I've seen nothing that Glen hasn't already achieved with APS Phase II. Will now experiment, time permitting wiith Dynowog, with keeping the Unichip with the Edit - just need to sort out how the boost is matched up throughout the range. With the intake, injectors and exhaust issues clearly well sorted with APS Phase II, so far there are no issues with fuel supply, or valve springs and nor should there be.

Having seen the Edit software I am very impressed with Nick's efforts, ability and patience with what he is producing; as for the Edit vs Unichip - an overdone argument stirred by a few and grossly overdone many many who either don't understand or haven't had either done properly. End-user numbers of power are not even half the story it's more about how much power and when - ie the shape of the curves and not necesarily where they end up. Have certainly seen the car much happier than first thought possible with less rich AFRs though.

Thanks for your input guys. I agree that a IC + injectors would be better value for money. Don't think ford would cover me if they saw a huge intercooler and aftermarket injectors, though you can only ask I guess. I just can't afford any hike in insurance plus I need my warranty if the car blows up. The APS exhaust is a nice piece of gear however, and pretty good value if consider the quality of it. Pretty sure I read in the APS thread that they will be selling it seperately now. Perhaps I would be better of with just a custom tune for now... as soon as there is someone in darwin who can do it.... Anyway back to the drawing board.

WHilst there is no doubt a larger I/c has benefits and provides greater lieklihood of performance repeatability but also be aware that it is the current trend too. OUt of exhaust/injectors vs I/c and injectors it is a difficult call and you need to think carefully about all of the other issues like warranty and so forth to arrive at your decision. Be aware also that thre are a lot of I/cs out there that really do very little other than look interesting.

If Ford finds the Edit, they will also refuse warranty. IF they can find it
