Yep ended up loosing 3 out of mine. Ford refused to fix it under warranty as they said they had never seen it before, and blamed the APS exhaust I had on their, even though it did not go near the area that the bolts were missing. Checked with my tuner and they confirmed that they had no reason to got near the turbo to install.

Spoke to others who had aslo had the same problem, quite common, however if ford can wrangle out of it they will, even if it's a $5 fix.

Drove the phoon from Brisbane to Byron and back on Saturday. All went well till I got her back to Brisbane and found she had no boost pressure at all. All was well when I left Byron but when I got off the freeway and off cruise control I noticed she had no 'go' in her. :stirthepot:

Took her to the shop today to find she has lost 2 of the 4 bolts that secure the turbo the the manifold, and lost the clip off the waste gate actuator arm.

  No one other than Ford dealers have ever touched the turbo itself

Anyone else had these bolts fall out of their T??

My XR6T lost a bolt a couple of weeks back, made it sound like an old XF falcon exhaust. Ford replaced it and tightened the others. Service manager made the point of telling me they can't just buy the spare bolts, he had to requisition an entire new turbo and remove a bolt to replace the one lost by my car

This not just a problem with the xr6t but most turbo cars because of the heat build up and than cool down cycle.

As dynowog stated they are suposed to be checked every 15000 k service.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but is the copper grease the way to stop this??

One of mine fell out completely and luckily I found it just sitting in behind the turbo housing.

Is it easy enough to check the bolts by jacking up the front or is it a hoist job?

The easist way is to remove your intake piping, both, then remove your heal shields from the manifold, pretty straight forward, then you can check all the mount bolts and manifold bolts etc.

Every time I have done mine, 2 are loose and almost out the others come up at least half a turn.

I can hear it in my car when they are loose, a high tone whistle/PPsshhh sound when on boost is there, when they are tight, no noise.

I check hine every 10k or so.

Also check the wastegate housing/dump pipe mount bolts, there are five into the turbo here as well, most of mine were loose too.
