nice one mercury F6. im envious.

I was told by a mechanic mate to run the T in by not revving it but putting it under a bit of load (eg. going up a third gear hill in fourth). dont know if its true, just what I was told.

Love that acceleration! Will try to get some good pics over the weekend.

I'm pretty cautious with cold engines and cringe when I see guys fire up their cars and flatten them before the starter motor's had a chance to wind down.

I like your suggestion with the oil pressure gauge F6 Rapid. Will keep an eye on that.

This is my opinion and my opinion only.Machinery of any kind will look after you if you look after it. I see the drive it like u stole it being written up all the time.

Honestly if you are only going to keep it a few years,it probably wont matter eg as a lease.I f u tend on keeping it for a while different story.Always warm her up,after 10,000ks u can go synthetic I`m on 35,000 changing to synthetic next service.Running in procedure is vary the revs as well as the speed gives a chance for motor,gearbox ,diff etc to bed in.dont jump on and off the loud pedal do it smoothly.Brakes need to be bedded in properly ask how many have had warped disks. Shim kits came out in October for the XR6T mines a September build no warped disks.

My previous car was an ed falcon lowered, xr6 rims,exhaust,suspension had it for 10 years the only thing that ever let me down was the battery.Not a hotted up much enginewise but it went pretty good. Not bad for 10 years.

congrats on your new ride!

I usually run engines in the way I intend to drive them, without going over about 4000rpm for the first 800 to 1000km, avoid sitting on a constant speed for too long, ie: if your on the freeway vary your speed by 10kph up or down evry 5 to 10 km, and as has been suggested don't overwork the engine cold. A bit of load is good, it puts more pressure on the rings and helps to bed them in, ie: short shifting to make the engine work a bit or carting a few mates around, you should have plenty of volunteers. Make sure they change the oil and filter at the 3000km service, they probably won't unless you ask for it to be done, and don't use friction modified oils until it is completely run in as they can prevent the rings from bedding in. This tecnique has worked well for me with both cars and bikes, but is just my personal opinion ( as a mechanic ). Have fun!

Don't take my advise..I simply drove it normaly (Hard!) from the moment they gave me the keys.

It ran a 13.2 at calder with only 2000k's on it, but I'm confident all F6's can do if driven well.

I don't thrash when cold..that's my only rule!!!

The wait is over! Picked up my new Mercury Silver F6 today. 

I gotta say, these things really haul ass for a production car.   Havin' a bit of trouble with the 6 speed.....pretty tight and too many gears!

Asked one of the FPV service technicians about the best way to run the engine in and he said just drive it hard if you want it to go hard. Sounded like a bit of a risk to me, but he drives one and said that he services the local XR6-T cop cars which are driven hard straight out of the box and always go better than the ones that are babied.

Any comments?

I thought I'd go midfield.......take it a bit easy with a few good blasts in between!

Anyway.....another happy camper!

Welome to the forum chief. Nice purchase indeed. Running in - Do a forum search and you find some usefull information. I think the most important thing you can do is change the Oil at about 500 or 1000 kms to make sure you get the crap out of it before any real damage is done. And dirve it hard.
