Not Another Air Box Mod

Just spent 30 minutes toying around with my V8 air box, come up with this idear.

1)Drilled 2X40mm holes with hole cutter.

2)Push two pvc pipe joiners through the holes.

3)Fit two apx 250mm lenghts of pcv pipe to the joiners.

4)Slide air box back into place with the two lenghts of pile fitting firmly between bottom of headlight and front panel, pipes are leaning downwards.

Go for a drive no whisle just a nice intake growl and no engine flat spot at 4800rpm, just rev's straight up to rev limiter.

Cost about $15 bucks as I had left overs from a reticulation job.

His car is an XT V8, only the XR and GT 8's have the round airbox.

You could have just got the XR8 snorkle and cut a dirty big home in the front of the air box and installed the snorkle. Then its just about the same as the Typhoon airbox. XR6's have the same airbox base as yours, and with the snorkle, you'll get about 3 times the amount of air in the front of the air box than your current setup.

I stand by my original claim that the Barra220 with extractors filter and an edit would be quite a sleeper....

you could raise the rev limter to 5800 or even 6000 and give the cam timing a decent fiddle...would make some pretty serious mid-range...

I agree that the 182's have got sum potential and I always hated ppl saying "get a turbo why waste money on a NA" when I previously owned one.

So - if they fit the pod style filters to the XR8 and GT (but not the lower level v8 cars) - are they actually better than the ones we have in the XR6T? ( ie you assume that the better cars have the better flowing filters).

Do any of 'our lot' put in the whole XR8 filter housing onto their Turbos?

little off topic but would it be better for flow if the plastic fin things in the airbox were ground off??
