Long Trip, New Motor

I might have to take my T and its 600km old motor for about an hour and a half drive up north and back on the weekend and I was wondering if it is a good idea or not considering its fairly new?? I know you should vary speeds on long trips but that might be a pain in the ass considering the length.

Speeds don't need to change.. just the revs from what I've been told.. just vary the gears for periods of time.

I took mine from Melb to Canberra and back with only 1000ks on the dial. Now its got 12000k's on it and cant identify any problems.

Just dont use the cruise control.

Gooday mate, I was speaking to the dudes at ford (as you know my engine is being replaced soon too) and they said modern engines basically dont have much of a run in period. I would keep revs below 4500rpm and dont use cruise control. The trip would be a good run in for it as long as you vary the revs. Ie keep at 110 but just change between 4th, 5th and 6th. That should be fine id say. Then again im no mechanic!!! I personally would not worry about it too much.

I got one of the more powerful stock T's from a hard run in procedure, this was made a bit harder considering the amount of hwy kms I did.

I used cruise control all the time, but I did vary the rev's. In the first car (auto) I shifted between third and fourth every 5 or so mins, and in the new car (manual) I shifted between fourth and fifth every 5 or so mins.

If you have a T56, keep shifting between 4th, 5th and 6th every 5 mins and you'll be right

I drove from Canberra to Bathurst and return via Blue Mountains and Sydney with ony about 500km on my car. 40,000km later it's still going strong. As others have said try and vary the revs a bit.

Just drive it like you hate it. works for most ppl.

Seriously though. Just drive it the way you intend to drive it. After about 500 km they are basically as good as they are going to get as far as bedding in. It will take approx 7000 km to really start freeing up anyway. Should use a small amount of oil which they top at 3000 km and then that's it.
