Spot on! I know of numerous Dell notebook failures that were basically caused by mainboard damage due to flexing of the chassis.

They make good computers, nice and cheap too!. The only thing which lets them down is their after sales support... call centre in india... nuff said.

I think you'll find most computer companies support is overseas now I know when I was at HP they were moving there support offshore

I have a few Dell laptops and lcd for work and one of the 17" lcd's failed and they replaced it with a 24" lcd the next day free of charge now that's support

Purely from user point of view - I have 1 Dell notebook (4 years old now) and 4 Dell desktops. I have not had a major problem with any so I have not had to call on for after sales service. With regards to technical difficulties or phone advice it depende on who is on the other end - if they know their craft they can diagnose your problem before you complete the symptoms list and provide a solution quick smart

I've had a Dell Latitude for a few years now. No real problems, its very tough. I even use it as a choc to stop the car from rolling down the driveway on weekends.

Dell laptops are bullet proof, they are standard issue for most companies in the oil industry and believe me, that's about the most harsh environment a computer has to operate in. We have about 10 Dells in our office.

Which part of "the oil industry" (it's a fairly large industry!) are you referring to? I'm just interested because I've done quite a bit of IT work for a rather large oil tanker company.

Citirc, l work in the oilwell drilling side of the busniess. All our guys carry at least one computer everywhere they go (NZ to PNG and all over Oz). Many commercial flights, helicopter rides etc etc. Its a rough and tumble environment, the laptops arent desk bound and play a vital role in the work we do. Based on my experiences, l wouldnt hesitate to buy a Dell.

We have a contract with Dell, all our State ops, IT and Regional Directors use Dell laptops and we have had some dramas with them, my wifes has gone through 2 processors in a year and hers isnt the only one to I <3 Bananas up and die without any warning, shes also been through a HDD too, they were basically told replace any unit that had a problem in the first 12 months with a new one or we would go elsewhere.
