Since everyone seems so obsessed about more lighting inside their XR's I thought you may like to know that the wiring and sockets for the front footwell lamps in Fairmont's and Ghia's is also in the XR. (at least it was in mine).

This pic shows the resulting effect the second shows where you put the globes.

This is where the globe goes near the glovebox hinge, there is a similar socket on the drivers side near the Fusebox.

It takes standard wedge type 5 watt globes.

Be cool to stick some blue bulbs in there (if possible) to get a matching effect with the dash board.

I just knew somone would want blue lights....(I could only find clear or orange globes)

It matches the other interior lights (roof and back doors) this way, though.

Its all already there just get 2 globes shove em unders the dash and let there be light. :idea:

Have you got a model number of type of the globe? Just want to know what to ask/look for?

I know nothing at all about lighting, so this may be a dumb question. Would a LED fit in the socket? If so, any particular spec to ask for? Blue or red would look nuts...

Oh, and are these on all the time? or only at night? or only when the door is open? cheers

Yep, our car has the sockets but no globes. Amazing the lengths Ford goto to differentiate between models

Here is a pic of just the globes.

I found it because ...Years ago I had an F100 and wanted to put the entire dash from an falcon into it. When I got the dash from a wreckers (from an S pack) it had the lamp sockets hidden, taped to the wiring under the dash, and the fitting under the dash was empty. (ford were sneaky in the 80's)

So I looked under the dash of dads old and sure enough way up high was the wiring, so cut the tape pulled down the socket, pushed it into the fitting under the dash put in a globe and after 15 years of driving a poverty pack falcon.... instant Fairmont. But much easier nowdays.

So the first day I picked up the car looked under the dash, and saw the socket just sitting there, put in 2 globes and jobs done, only took me 3 months to get arround to taking the pic to show everyone else.

The lights only come on with the other interior lights, that is when the door is open or the console button or remote button is pushed.....so they dont have to be blue!!!

Am I the only person who gets nervous when they see blue lights when diriving?

Damn mine doesnt appear to have it. Can anyone tell me if the lampholder was in position or you had to find,and where the wiring appears to come from?
