a little bit from a drive.com article I was reading on the net today

"The VZ Monaro costs $60,490. A 2005 Pontiac GTO costs $US32,000, or $41,390 in our money - and that's after the cost of sending it to the US. If you think we get ripped off on price, consider this too: the 2005 GTO has the new 6.0-litre Gen IV V8, but for the time being Australian Monaro buyers have to make do with yet another version of the 5.7-litre Gen III."

it is amazing to see so many people get ripped off without even realizing it. :crybaby:

good to see Expensive Daewoo looking after their australian customers  , wouldn't be real happy if I owned one and found that out but that should teach them to buy one in the first place

Ive always thought Holdens have been over priced and its the main reason I havent bought one.

I bet Ford would love to be selling there cars for the kind of profit Expensive Daewoo must be making.

Am I correct in assuming the reason it may be so cheap is that some of the parts come from over there...

Maybe the car is shipped in part, then finished off over there to save on costs??

Left hook conversion may be done over there?? engine install?? who knows....

or something to that effect.

Why would the yanks pay a premium for a 6Lt LS2, when they make the Fkrs...

Ship it here, pay for it, ship it back, I don't think so.

Factor in cost of living, economic situation, cost of manufacture.

New R34 GTR Sklyine from the land of the rising son costs bugger all and a new evo can be had for $34K.

We always pay more, because we're the lucky country... :pinch::w00t2:

Easily explained - Expensive Daewoo is a completely fully owned and funded subsidiary of GM. They only manufacture here to make profits for the home country, not for Australia. The only thing they do for the Australian economy is employ a few people in their assembly factories. What parts they don't make themselves in Australia they import from other plants worldwide - using their export credits to keep cost down. Ford actually use a much higher percentage of local suppliers and their balance sheet stands alone - ie if they lose money Ford US don't top them up and if they make money Ford US doesn't suck it off.

It comes down to pricing to meet the market, see this thread l started a while back and you will see what l mean. Even though exchange rates have moved a little since that thread performance cars in the US are a hell of a lot cheaper than here.

The size of the market, GM being the parent company etc of course all come into it too, but the market there sets the price.

Cheers Simon

It probably got alot to do with taxes we pay on cars over here. Australia is heavily taxed and when you compair the cost of any car here to what they usually are overseas we are getting ripped off majorly. Our government screws us where they can. Especially if you try and do well for your self. Im sure if the XR6T was sold in the US it would be about 28k...
