have any of you guys ever seen the govenment lease prices on a XR6T? The govenment can sell them second hand for almost more then they buy them for.. and that's after 2yrs or 40k

Yeah, my old man worked for the government in the 80's and he used to get a newie every 40k or 3 years...they would normally give him a cheque and a new car on trade in!!! despite the fact he thrashed the living sh!t out of them...

Am I correct in assuming the reason it may be so cheap is that some of the parts come from over there...

Maybe the car is shipped in part, then finished off over there to save on costs??

Left hook conversion may be done over there?? engine install??  who knows....

or something to that effect.

Why would the yanks pay a premium for a 6Lt LS2, when they make the Fkrs...

Ship it here, pay for it, ship it back, I don't think so.

Factor in cost of living, economic situation, cost of manufacture.

New R34 GTR Sklyine from the land of the rising son costs bugger all and a new evo can be had for $34K.

We always pay more, because we're the lucky country...  :spoton:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

im pretty sure the cars are made left hook in our assembly plant and the engines are fitted here. they are sending the 6.0ltr here anyway for the hsvs.

I think the prices over ther are so cheap because they are not selling as well as GM hoped.

it just shows how overpriced holdens and hsvs are.

You are right drcook, the Goats are made at Elizabeth and roll off the production line ready to be shipped to the US.

I have been on a tour of the factory some time ago where I watched the GM badged Statesmans roll off the line in LHD format ready for export. I think at that time those things were headed for Saudi Arabia and were badged "Chevrolet Caprice". This was before they started shipping goats, but the same principle applies now.

ha funny that, this toppic got me wondering, exactly how cheap the commy is, The US GTO is about 68% of the price for a Monaro, Gov discount on a 6T is about 70% of the price, pitty the Expensive Daewoo list doesnt have a lease price for a Monaro, would be interesting to see.

One magor thing to also look at is the margins required for a car to be profitable, the more you make the cheaper you can make them, Australia has a very high model turnover rate compared to most of the world yet we only sell a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the world... we are extremely lucky to have the falcons and commies full stop, let alone at the price range they are in.
