December 29, 200421 yr #1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi There,Just got a few questions re: the premium brakes that are an option on the new BA falcons (mine is a series 1)It is surprising how hard it is to get firm answers or even written technical specs on these brakes, so that's why I am asking here.Questions:1. Are the calipers different to the standard ones, aside from badging. If so, how?2. Are the rotors any different to standard, apart from the slotting? ie are they greater diameter, thickness etc?3. Are there performance pads available for these, and if so what make and/or part number?4. I am considering upgrading to a series 2. Premium brakes cost about 3k as an option... could I get more for my money buying and fitting aftermarket (brand new) brake rotors/calipers/pads?'nix

Yes, the calipers are different because the rotors are thicker, not sure if piston sizes are same or different but I believe they are the same.2. Yes, yes & yes, the Premium rotors measure 325mm x 32mm as compared to 298mmx 28mm for the std..3. Not 100% sure if perf. pads are available but I believe they are.4. You be the judge & compare aftermarket prices,One last thing to consider the rear rotors/calipers are exactly the same except for the elliptic grooves in the disc & the caliper being painted! Hope this helps.
December 29, 200421 yr #3 I wouldnt worry about the premo brakes for the xr's they are sh*t save your money and get some brembo or something like that
December 29, 200421 yr #4 bcr001 is doing the PBR Brake Kits for something crazy like $1750, u can then get them fitted for around $200 and have premium brakes and new standard brakes for sale to get even further money back...I believe the rotor pattern is different between the PBR package and the Ford Premium brakes... the PBR package has braided hosing, not sure if Premium does... and the PBR package has sexy red calipers so it looks scmicko Rule of thumb... save your money and fit them aftermarket... it's not worth paying Ford an extra $1K for effectively the same thing you can get through the right places

I've added a few btw. The ~$3000 price tag for the option is probably way too high, and there are probably better/cheaper after-market alternatives out there, but I'm a happy camper and wouldn't consider anything less than the premium brakes.
December 29, 200421 yr #7 for the $3000 you spend on the for a bit extra you could run 4pot brakes with bigger rotors and stop even better
December 30, 200421 yr #8 3. Are there performance pads available for these, and if so what make and/or part number? The premium brake option is the same as the FPV standard fitment and I'm 99% sure that the base HSV clubsport brakes are the same also. So one would assume that aftermarket pad options are available. The ~$3000 price tag for the option is probably way too high, and there are probably better/cheaper after-market alternatives out there, but I'm a happy camper and wouldn't consider anything less than the premium brakes. Have to agree with Ken here. Sure they're not good value when compared to the rest of the market or that they SHOULD be standard. But some people like factory fitment only, while others like me have leases which do not allow modifications, so you're not left much choice. I'd rather spent the cash and have them, than still be driving on stock brakes!!!!

The lease company can take a hike , all you have to satisfy is the inurance boys. Please be careful what you sign up for, everyone wants a bit of the ole pie. Bottom line is you probably will have to pay for your mods V pre tax on a novated lease. Still working on this for the next beast, let U all know how it goes
