  1. [MODS please don't move the thread, I doubt many people would look in the driveline sub forum and I'm looking to see how many other people have had issues] I've got an FG sedan, had it about 18mths now. From day 1, I noted driveline issues that were not present on my 2 previous manual BAII XR6T's. Dealer kept calling me an idiot saying there was nothing wrong. Shortly after 12,000km's the centre bearing on the tailshaft shat itself resulting in a replacement. I was without the car for almost 3 weeks as they claimed it took 2 weeks just to source the part. About 12,000km's after that, it happened again. Exact same thing even after being told the car was 100%. Again I was without a car though not as long this time. When I got it back, they'd stuffed the clutch and it had to go back to be fixed. Another 10,000kms or so and a 3rd dealer, I noticed something funny going on which resulted in the drivers side driveshaft being replaced instead. They insisted that the tailshaft was perfect and the car yet again was all good. The first time it happened I thought maybe I helped it along as I admit I don't baby my cars. But in fairness the FG had a much easier time than the previous BA's. But after the first replacement to prove to myself that it can't have been me, I drove for 6mths like an old mole, yet it still broke in the exact same way. Now at just over 40,000kms I suspect its stuffed again. But, WTF would I know? I'm just some stupid idiot driving the thing? I've given up arguing with the so called expert representatives of FoMoCo and just drive like a little old lady everywhere. I even avoid roads where I might cop a hill start or have to reverse up a driveway cos the load on the driveline might just snap it again. I can terminate my lease in under 6mths without penalty and I can't wait to park the thing and never look back. If it wasn't illegal, I'd drive the thing through the camberfield head office and walk home. The experience I've had with this car has ensured that it will be the last Ford product I ever have anything to do with simply because their dealer network are a bunch of c$%#'s. And before you say good riddance, this is my 4th new XR since the BA was released so if they refuse to look after a 10yr repeat customer, who are they interested in looking after? Are the dealers right making me out to be some ar$ehole, or are other people having the same problem?
  2. I was logging in to post my scenario given the dealers have making me out to be the pr1ck only to find this thread! I've got an FG sedan, had it about 18mths now. 3. Add in that if you don't have a perfect bit of road surface or seriously ride the clutch it results in a lot of axle tramp!!! But when it works, its quite amusing!
  4. Here's some pics from when I disabled the ignition-on feature on my FG. Was the same setup as my previous BAII's. Just remove the blade fuse and its all good. I ran my cars like this for near 2yrs without issue. With the fuse removed, you can use the auto feature on the headlight stalk so they only come on when the sensor thinks they should be on. http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...mp;#entry727439
  5. LOL Telstra cars. I'm on my 4th and um no comment... But yeah they get serviced as needed and if something needs to be fixed/replaced they just get it done. By the way, a lot of them have the premium sound because a lot of us option it in, I've optioned it on all 3 of the cars I ordered new. Never had any faults with the sub though?
  6. I've yet to find the time (or be bothered) to go complain to my dealer again but have you guys found that the gear level vibrates like crazy? In my 3 manual turbos they all had a bit of movement which doesn't bother me at all but in the FG the gear stick vibrates excessively at idle and while cruising. It's fairly annoying and almost bordering on uncomfortable. I'm convinced that either the gearbox or somewhere else in the driveline there is a massive imbalance causing the vibration and possibly the clunks/rear end diff vibration. Of course as Hypno said, getting a dealer to come clean is near impossible (in Melbourne at least). The last time I complained and gave them specific and localised points on where the fault was coming from they responded with "we tightened the rear suspension, its all good"...haha
  7. Thanks for the PM too, I'd forgot to subscribe to my own thread Here is the wire xr6_2001 is talking about: Mine was crimped on so instead of ripping it off, I tried tracing the wire but didn't get far so I went fishing again under the dash... and found what looked almost identical to the module used on the old BA's I had: Peeling away some of the foam taping at the end, there is a clip on the side which opens it up to show a 5A blade fuse. With that removed the stupid fleet system is defeated: Reason I couldn't find it the first time is the dealer did a much better job fitting it this time and had hidden it well up under the dash. On my BA's it was pretty much just hanging above the pedals near the steering column. Thanks again xr6_2001!
  8. Mines the same Murray, seems a bit more profound than my 2 previous BA's but not 100% sure as I had a 12mth gap between the last BA and this FG. I think it just comes down to poor build quality from Ford and not putting enough time and effort into building these things well. I don't reckon the manual Holdens do it anywhere near as bad as the Fords, but then again those things don't have the I6T so win some loose some!
  9. Forgot to add that the seek forward/backwards controls on the steering wheel and dash work but that is it. So you've got charging and track selection but that's it, still fairly useless given the cost of it.
  10. I tested the iphone 3G in a G6E Turbo today. Comes up on the dash as ipod not compatible or something like that and a message was displayed on the phone saying non supported accessory in use. If you used the ipod controls on the phone, it played through the cars speakers exactly the same as it would using the auxillary line in. So paying for the ipod cable for use with an iphone 3G is really just a farken expensive charger! Given you can get USB style car chargers that work with the iphone for ~$20, it seems pointless unless ford update the ICC software to make them fully compatible or apple does something. (both not likely)
  11. Usually can't go wrong with something like that given the OEM fitments. I'm limited in the tyre outlets I can use, but found to get around fleet dictating what brand is to get the Ford service guys to sort it out. Providing they can get a hold of them, all good.
  12. Yeh I was gonna go to one of those places I've used in the past but thought I'd check if anyone else had played around yet. Believe they're the same tyres on the 18's, forgot to double check. Will see if an alignment improves things...
  13. Yeah I know but seeing if there are ways of doing it without throwing new bits at the car. Being a fleet deal, they frown upon that sort of thing. I'm sure they can do some camber/castor/toe adjustments, won't be perfect but has to be some gains in it.
  14. Not sure about others but personally I think the Dunlop tyres Ford uses have always been inadequate for the turbos in weather that was anything put warm and perfectly dry. Not sure what model are fitted on the standard FG XR 18's but they seem as useless as the SP3000 and SP9000's I had on my previous cars! About the only improvement is road noise but I suspect that is due to improvements in the actual car, not the tyres. Previously I'd get the dealer to swap to Bridgestone S03's when possible and will be swapping to whatever the current equivalent is for this car. (Unless there is something better these days? Cost is irrelevant) But until then, are there any alignment adjustments that can be made to get the front end turning in a bit better? Don't care if it makes the front/rear tyres wear any faster or unevenly as it will just help me get rid of them!
  15. My FG is stock and it does it from a dead cold start. First 5mins in the morning driving to work, if I give it a bit of gas and lift off sharply it pops like crazy!
