It gives you the effective benefits of a super charger low down with the great boost from the turbo higher up in the rev range. In fact it can give you full boost at idle speed. A true lag-killer. Warning - its a bit out there. But so are many cars owned by people at this forum (Phase 3+ anybody...), who have moved into the realm of upgrading certain "weak parts" to allow them to explore the boundaries more. This is no different. Making it work on a T (with its ECU and with standard headers and cat and turbo)...Id leave that up to those in the know. You can do similar with altering your timing and still pumping in fuel when you lift off the accelerator, but I think the method below is neater - although both methods work the same way. Like all mods effecting your turbo, it will shorten the turbo's standard life - but so will boosting it to more than 6 psi. The difference being whenever you have this system turned on, your turbo will always be at full boost. If I were doing it to my T, Id go a new exahaust manifold, cat, pipes (at least most of them) and maybe a turbo better suited to the task. Id also only have it engage on launch and gear changes if I had a master switch turned on. (ie wouldnt use it all the time). And you will smoke most cars off the line - even with an otherwise standard level of boost. They do it in the top level rally cars to allow warp speed launches: add a fuel injector in the main exhaust pipe (where all the single cylinder pipes eventually join into one pipe) and either add a switch in the car, add some smarts to your engine management, or add a microswitch under your accelerator pedal that's activated when you floor it fully. When the injector fires, it dumps raw fuel straight into the exhaust. It immediately ignites and explodes, adding sh1tloads of volume to the exhaust flow and allowing launches at full turbo spool speed without a problem..and without the engine needing to be running at high revs. Also, the same technique can be used to keep the turbo always spooled up even between gear changes..add a microswitch to your gear lever (in a manual) which activates it when the gear lever is moved into a new gear. No need to flat-change to try to keep the turbo spooled up, as the turbo never spools down.I think Greddy make controllers for the injector. I have some videos buried in my hard disk. I have (attempted) to post one with this post. It does make a noise though depending on how you implement it...some interesting backfires and flames out the exhaust when its engaged in certain ways (others are not a problem though and make little noise). Its technically a wee bit illegal (because of emmissions), which is why an on-off switch wouldnt hurt. That way you only turn it on for those really "special" launches off the lights. (Like when a Late model camira or Ferrari, Turbo porsche etc is nearby....)Attached are 3 videos:1) a VERY NOISY Corolla - unusually so for a street car. They are not all like this...depends on a few variables! Keep in mind even if it was that loud, you would only engage it for a second before launch and its when you back off that you hear it. 2) An MP3 file (sound only) of a rather nice Impreza WRX with it fitted - you can hear it bang between gear shifts (as well as the gearbox) and also on back-off. Note not a bit of lag to be heard anywhere!3) An EVO7 using both anti-lag and launch control.corolla_als.wmvimpreza.mp3evo7.wmv Edited 26/12/04 02:12 PM by mickq

They are not driven like rally cars.

Having such a big torque hit off the line would probably smash them to bits. Either that or the thing will just break into huge wheelspin. Edited 27/12/04 12:31 AM by Venom XR6

Or simply not accelerating as hard It's easier to apply less power when you have too much, than it is to make more power when you don't have enough! The diff/gearbox would have to be an issue though...

I've been looking into this of late as I have an auto turbo with an EMS and was looking to get only a little extra boost off the line. (too much power is bad also). With Antilag it essentially uses the computer to retard timing and cuts spark to the cylinders in a selected sequence and at the same time injecting more fuel to the injectors. This is noisy and it can only be used on MANUALS, not autos, Ive tried it in the auto; I can build heaps of boost out of gear when you rev it to 4K+. But with a auto antilag reduces power heaps at low revs so unless you have a massive histall it cant be done this way. However the other method you mentioned I have been thinking about lately which involves using a seperate injector into the exhaust manifold and retarding the timing on takeoff to build boost but I am trying to work out the best way to inject the fuel into the exhaust manifold as getting an injector too close would melt it IMO. So if anyone can advise me on how to inject the fuel in safely then I will be doing this mod (I've looked on the net but couldn't find much info on the exhaust manifold injection setup). This mod will work, shouldn't be that noisy and can be easily programmed into the EMS so work about a certain load/rev point and it will be street track friendly. I know it increases EGT heaps but on the track it will only be used for a few seconds on takeoff so I cant see it being a huge problem.Mickq, there are so many *beep*'s and PUNCE'S on this forum who could probably give out brain surgery advice on the net having never studied medicine. Best ignored.
