December 9, 200421 yr #1 Here is the link : http://carsguide.news.com.au/news/story_pa...5E21822,00.htmlThe article says that the Typhoon being used had a clutch failure and that FPV rushed a second car to the tests but it's clutch failed too!Oh the joys of 550nm of torque at work.David Flint accused Motor mag test drivers of flat shifting and said that caused the problems. He said he didn't expect customers to flat shift their cars so they didn't test the clutch for it. Now they have tested it and it failed that test as well.He said there was a fix for it but the won't recall the cars already out there, customers can take their cars back and have them fixed but they wouldn't be recalled. On a side note, they mentioned the overboost problem on the XR6 again, and again Ford bullsh*tted and said that there was no longer a problem as owners could simply go their local dealer for an ecu re calibration to fix the problem.
December 9, 200421 yr #2 for the uninnitiated, care to explain what a flat shift is?I assume it is when you shift into a gear at the perfect rev range without using the clutch???
December 9, 200421 yr #3 Now that is a real Worry Flat shifting when I went to school was FULL throttle and slam another gear just poping the clutch.
December 9, 200421 yr #4 Author A flat shift, is shifting at max revs without taking your foot off the go fast pedal between gear changes.
December 9, 200421 yr #5 Kind of makes you want to rush out and grab an ex-media demo vehicle doesn't it?Trent.
December 9, 200421 yr #6 A flat shift, is shifting at max revs without taking your foot off the go fast pedal between gear changes.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah and I have always worried about this in a hi perforamce car. Think of how quick revs climb, your at redline pop the clutch quick and how far does the engine spin past redline until the rev limiter can catch it. I have seen this cause major damage to a WRX when the rev limiter didnt catch the revs quick enough. Edited December 9, 200421 yr by eatV8
December 9, 200421 yr #7 Can't wait till Ford start telling F6 owners that your clutch is knackered because of abuse... Not our fault they'll say...so no warranty
December 9, 200421 yr #8 Author Can't wait till Ford start telling F6 owners that your clutch is knackered because of abuse... Not our fault they'll say...so no warranty <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I agree JB, I think David Flint laid the foundation for that in the article. It will divide people on how your car should be treated, but if FPV actually didn't think that some owners would try flat shifting in a Typhoon, then they were a little naive I think.
December 9, 200421 yr #9 A bit odd really!! You would think with all the proto and demos out they would have seen this before now?Im sure that FPV will give warranty and 100% They have a reputation to uphold and when you start paying the bigger $$'s they will look after you. I HOPE
December 9, 200421 yr #10 Well of course everyone flat shifs on the way to work. this technique is not designed for the car nor many others.V8 supercars do it witha HOLINGER DOG box fitted. Want to flat shift then fit the right gear. Next think Motor will say is that it doesnt handle on the dirt........They are really kidding if this is how they are testing cars. They should be driven how punters will drive them and if most punters flat shift then I can stand to be corrected. May Mal Woods like to comment?
