Hi,

I am not a specialist, but I am fairly sure that its a problem in the ignition timing (algorithm / map) that’s causing the over boost.

I have experienced this problem when tuning my engine (250) which has an external wastegate set at 8psi. By just altering the timing curve, I was getting unstable boost peeking way above the preset level. Usually too much advance and too aggressive a curve would bring it on.

Most BA complaints of this problem are when the temp is low and the car has been cruised for a while, indicating that Ford engineers must be peeking the timing to get the best fuel economy in cold conditions. When you nail it, the computer must be still using the "advanced" timing causing the boost to increase in an unpredictable manner.

This would explain why one of the engine tuners can eliminate the problem, yet others can't.

But then again..I could be totally wrong...

Cheers

good theory who knows havnt seen enough of them doing it to know! macka's was definately way to lean causing knock! increase in timing can also cause knock! cruising along cool air with the air box full stab the throttle the air rush causing overboost. or cruising along and the mixtures leaning of stab the throttle an ping. to many good scenario's for my liking just sounds like theve out smarted them selves with all the extra's to stop us modding the T? just an observation!

You reckon they're that smart DW?I don't think so!

Since I went APS Phase II with Spiro at Autotech, not a single overboost.  :kissmy:

as ive said in previous posts spiro does some good work and thus no more hasles.

with aftermarket ecu control you can't get it unless the jobs not done right! the only way for you to get more boost is to cap the sensor output so that the ecu never see's the real boost!

Fault found:

My xr6t has gone into limp mode

when hot, when cold

in auto in manual in performance

on the wrong side of the road x 2

on the middle lane of the monash freeway x1

total of about 12 episodes

had it reflashed, re checked

today ford disabled the ecu for control of turbo ie over boost and state it will work fine in manual boost mode

ford are testing NEW NEW NEW software for the ecu, will be available in about a month

still love it, but damm

have sent them a letter from my solicitor advising them I will invoke a coronial inquest if I am in a car accident , and logged calls to customer response team at broadmeadoes, ford are concerned and worried by potential for legal issue

we will win

How about a copy of the letter to ford,so we can all down load it,put our names on it,and send it off.

I hate this car now after the over boost incedent!!! Wonder if ford is in partnership with bill gates???the car runs as good as windows :ermm:
