So what about the rotten eggs in the police basket, what happens if they start picking on people they don't like who have noce cars, confescating cars from people with huge financial obligations to them could be left in ruin. Then they may turn to other forms of crime to get themselves out of debt, even steal other nice cars to get the money back, Although I do agree with preventing the illegal drags and stuff, but maybe just hold there car for a period of time , not take it outright.

I dunno, maybe we should all just vote in a communist government, seems all the law makers at present seem to like the Stalinistic approach.

SBR79, whilst I sort of understand your point, I think a crack at the police is uneccessary. Previously they have been the ones tring to drive the initiatives to get them off the street. At the end of the day you have to put yourself in their shoes, imagine seeing the same old person out there dragging day in day out, of course they are going to target, don't you think being a local police officer that you get to see a pattern, and start to see the same old faces? A small group unfortunately put themselves in that position, not the other way around.

In relation to the removal of vehicles I believe it should not be permanent, however with a 3 tier warning system it clearly gives the individual the opportunity to change their behaviour. If they cannot control themselves with 3 warnings then maybe they should not be behind the wheel? What's more important, doing a burnout to impress your friends once a week, or having a job, car and financial stability?

Police are not the only ones involved and don't make the final decision in other states - a day in court is required where a Magistrate decides if the car should remain impounded or released. If no charges are laid by the police, the cars must be released.

I honestly believe once the vic government gets the legislation passed, the police and courts nomatter what their thoughts on the matter are powerless and have no choice, as once the Vic government has a bee in their bonnet, they dictate what happens.
