Replacing the rego sticker

Dumb question number 318576....

The windscreen on my missus' car has a decent crack in it, so I'm going to get it replaced.

Any tricks to remove and 'reinstall' the rego label or can I just go along to the RTA and have a replacement issued... what's the go?

Never had to replace a 'screen before.

You should be able to ring them and get a replacement label? If not try rubbing it with a moist rag and then pulling it off, should come straight off but I dont know if it will still restick, if not then just get some of that clear book cover stuff and stick it back on with that!

Im pretty sure they will restate you with a brand new lable though!

No doubt after you pay them some ridiculous "reprint fee"......

Go the razor blade, scrape the old one off, and grab some clear "Contact", and use that to re-attach it.

From memory its $22 and you can just take the remains of the old one in for proof.

If you are careful you can remove it whole witha razor and just use some stickytape to keep it in place

If you get a sponge and wet it with warm water and hold it against the label for a few minutes, it should come off really easy. Clear contact or sticky tape to put it on the new windscreen. :spoton:

Or just wait until you renew your rego to replace the windscreen!

I have found with my Victorian rego sticker that you can peel it off and reapply it.

Geea.

Thanks everyone. I'll give it a go with the wet sponge and razor. And yeah, they are keen.... despite a search of their site, the RTA has no info on this subject, so I emailed them and got a response today. The replacement cost is $16 and all you do is go to a registry office and present your drivers' lic (NSW).

$16 for a sticker... ho hum. For $16 I'll reassemble the bloody bits of it and use clear contact and sticky tape as you guys have suggested.
