Hi Yall,

Looking at adding 19s to the car soon, but also thinking is it neccessary to lower the car once they are on.

Who has experience with 19s and lowering? Also where in sydney did you get yours done, what did you get done and how much :w00t2:

thanks :spoton:

If you put 19"s on your T I'm pretty sure you have warranty issues, guess it depends on your dealer.

By putting 19"s on over the standard 17"s you lift the car a full inch off the ground, which doesn't sound like much but you can definately notice it.

(My opinion) :w00t2:

Herrods charge around $800 for the sedan and $1100 for the ute for their mods, Pedders is $500 sedan and $700 ute. Other company's are a bit lower but actually re-set the original spring rather than replace them.

These prices will/should include 4 new springs (Pedders re-set the leaf springs in the ute) and a camber adjustment kit to reduce wear on the tyres.

Say goodbye to your front spoiler aswell!! :spoton:

Hi

I have 19" and have lowered mine with king springs there about $300 for all 4 coils. I started with there LOW springs all round and now have gone to superlows on the rear to level the car out.

I heard this was the case also, do you need to lower the car with 18's as well? or do they fit in quite nicely.

Also with the 19's do you need to get your speedo recalibrated?

Cheers,

Matt

Steve,

You're welcome to come over to my place to have a look at the 19's, and review some of the issues. I have Herrod springs (done by Thompson Ford). Wheels are from Croydons (called Racing Emotion ... ask for Theo).

From my archived list I have the following links, which may be helpful:

Thanks Brian, trbo 6 and TURBO4LT.

Brian, I like your rims very much but to chose the same would be like 'Banya' out of seinfeld. Gold, jerry, Gold :spoton:

I've already chosen them and they are very rare like yours. I'll post pics shortly. I'm just thinking that to have 19s on without lowering them would be like driving a bus...

I'll see how it looks though...

MS700 didn't lower his car until a few weeks after he put the 19s on. Looked OK, but a bit high, looked much better lowered. Pretty sure he had got the Herrod lowering package which is around $900.

Saleen1 has 19s and lowered suspension (King springs) and it looks good and rides well, barely noticeable from stocker in ride quality.

I've got factory 18s and Herrod suspension on mine, looks good I reckon but I can't park with the nose over the kerb or I'll wreck the front spoiler. 19s would raise it a smidgen higher so you might be able to get away with it.

I believe there is a different setting for the wheel alignment from 17" to 18", not sure how 19s are supposed to be set up. I haven't heard of anyone with 19s suffering excessive or premature tyre wear so it mustn't be a problem.

Are you guys on drugs or something, trbo 6 and Mattson?

Anyway I will explain, as it looks like no-one else has. When you put a larger diameter wheel on a car, it is usually complemented by a lower profile tyre. A standard 17 has a 235/45/17 tyre on it. Replacing this with the 18s I think has a 245/40/18. I replaced my standard wheels about 1km after I got the car and put 19" wheels on it and use 245/35/19 tyres on the car.

The number to look at with regards to the profile of the tyre is the middle one. A 45 series tyre (fitted with the 17s) has a sidewall height that is 45% of the with of the tyre, which is in that case 235mm wide. In order to keep the same or very similar rolling diameter the tyre manufacturers produce tyres with a lower profile. My tyres have a sidewall that is 35% of the tyre width, which is 245mm.

This means that the wheels will have very similar rolling diameters and therefore no recalibration will be requires and the car will not sit any higher. Also, I believe that in NSW you can fit 19s legally because 18s are available from the manufacturer.

HOWEVER, I have decided to lower my car because I think that if you're gonna make your car look good with $5k worth of 19's, it'll look heaps better with a set of lowered coils inder it too. I have fitted Kings superlows to the front and Kings lows to the rear. If you want pics of my car, email me offline and I will send them to you.

Exactamondo, that's what I was about to say. Its the profile of the tyre

so the ride height will be the same 17's, 18's & 19's.

I thought the same, but not being an expert in the area I was out argued by the tyre show... but I guess that's just them trying to make an extra buck on a set of kings.. and some kickbacks from the guys at the speedo recalibration shop...

Cheers anyways
