Fuel efficiency and general manners are just 2 of the significant engine improvements over the 30 years, not to mention pretty much everything else both within the car and surrounding its development. But I think the main point you've made is quite valid.

Plus I was under the impression that the FG turbo injectors are running at very near 100% duty cycle, meaning that the first aspect of any modding should really be addressed at fueling.
  3. I just said its not really "launch control". As mentioned in another thread on roughly the same topic in this section, I've been told by a reasonably reliable source (a mate who's been driving these cars for months) that if you put the auto in neutral it won't rev past 3500, much the same as the manual. "Launch control" is a nice, fancy, sporty way of saying "warranty protector"
  4. Its not launch control per se (more just a gearbox-protecting 3500rpm soft-limiter) and apparently the autos have it too. I find it funny that all the arguments for the auto are based around the "technology, ease, refinement, speed, etc" theories and all the arguments for the manual are based around the "you're a girl's dick if you don't drive a manual" theory.
  5. Whenever someone gets a chance could they see if they can free rev an auto (in neutral) past 3500? My mail is that the autos have "launch control" too, although launch control isn't strictly the correct term, its more of a gearbox safeguard that happens to help with nice launches.
  6. BF typhoon had 550Nm. Maybe you need to be an engineer to understand that 533 is less than 550 Sorry for not being clear enough - senna_T has it right.
  7. Smaller turbo, new intake path. Less peak torque but fatter curve
  8. funny haha or funny lol? Not just hit - quite comfortably apparently. My source is quite good - I've actually been taken for a drive in the new falcon, so think what you will. Oh and the FPV tuning is available for the previous generations, and for the non FPV vehicles, not just the more expensive cars - but that's just what I've been told, could be that its just for ford employees or something specific like that.
  9. I was given a power figure today that the stock package is capable of. Several eyebrows were raised I can tell you. Oh, and besides that I know of a test xr6t that'll happily crack the 200mph mark. Ford actually encourages modding these things - from what I've been told you can hike your arse and $1900 over to FPV for a new exhaust and a flash tune and 300 killer wasps

Read carefully mate - I never said they would. I only said what I'd been told about the project. 350 was the number. Heck, the even the new XR6 Turbo has more factory ability than most people realise.

To all the knockers - a little birdy told me that the new falcon is almost a complete rethink (from memory 90% new was the figure bandied about). Handling is far from dull - shakes the weight off quite well. Oh, and the V6TT setup is apparently a 350kw minimum prospect, so take from that what you will. There's a stronger feel of quality about the new cars, even though they're certainly not up to euro standards. I believe the philosophy is to build european style cars but cheaper.
  12. I've never understood why jokers like that brag about that sort of thing eg: "I pulled 400 m/s out of 1st man", or the obligatory "what do ya pull out of first with this thing". How it is a mark of performance I'll never understand, as its got buckley's to do with your engine. If I had a 5 or 6 speed box that did 100 km/h in first it'd be a) custom made and expensive b) stupidly impractical c) ghey Plus, imagine the 4 hours of fun while you're trying to get to 100 (just like launching in 3rd or 4th I'd imagine). Furthermore, while the bloke with the hectik 100km/h in 1st car is revving its tits off getting there, everyone else has long ago shifted at least once, and is calmly (and not necessarily slowly) moving off into the distance (forwards that is)
  13. yeah, but the rules are there for a fairly good reason. Still, now you'll just have to think a little harder about what car you want to drive. Power to weight will become a massive consideration. I've only got a year to go on my P's, so I can (relatively) do as I please, although I think I'll shelve any plans I had for getting an XR6T (I drive a TX3 at the moment) and I'll get something a little bit different (read: less potentially common - I fear the XR6T will become the new VL within a very short time, as they're getting alarmingly cheap), such as a liberty turbo (looking at the B4) before eventually moving onto a phoon, once the salary allows. <div class='bbimg'> </div>All the new laws mean for you is that you've got an extra 3 years (or is it longer now?) to save up for a better car to drive once you're off them. You don't want a monster of a car when you're just starting to drive, heck, even when you've been driving for a year or 2, as its fairly likely that you'll do yourself (and others) some harm.
  14. My bad - I could have sworn that I had read about the total exclusion of V8s in my road rules book, but going back and having a look I can't find anything. Meh. but as far as linguistics, allowed has two "l's" and yourself has an "r" in it.
  15. umm right now the limit is 125kw/tonne or 3.5L/tonne.. the v8, turbo, supercharged, and high powered sixes ban is being enforced as of July 1 next year. ← Failed maths at school did you? For an XR6T (say 240kw) to be considered legal under the 125kw/tonne rule she'd have to weigh 1920kg from factory. Seeing as the XR6T weight is more like 1700kg, I'd say its very much a high powered vehicle, and is quite rightly on the banned vehicles list (which I assume you failed to bother looking at). Its been on this list for some time, even before any talk of any new P-plate regulations came to the fore. Furthermore, V8s have been banned P-plater vehicles for some time too, regardless of their respective ratios. Consider yourself owned mathematically.
  16. I'd suggest (and I can't believe this hasn't been said already in 4 pages of thread) that the reason you're getting attention from the cops is because you're not supposed to be driving the car on your Ps XR6Ts are on the probationary driver banned vehicles list (go to the vicroads website to download the files if you like) for being high powered cars: any cop worth his salt should be pinging you for driving one. Heck, any V8 is out of the question too. So whinge all you like.

well then - there you go. Nissan's got the turbo as the first link in the chain to falter (which one won't go the distance?) As I alluded to before - the ford system is fairly finely engineered. Generally everything is in balance from factory, so if you suddenly up just one area, you'd expect everything else to suffer (ie whack on a big exhaust, normally you'd expect more boost, meaning more fuel needed, possibly higher intake temps due to turbo running above efficiency (I know this isn't the case with the 35/40) - and don't forget the brakes!) The difference with the ford is that in this instance the computer sees itself as the hero and is pretty much designed to step in and protect the mechanical side of things, given that everything was designed to go so far, so hard. Even by editing the computer the balance issue is still there - only there's no longer a failsafe.

G'day the 33 will get somewhere near that kind of increase mainly because its ECU will accomodate it as best it can (no doubt altering the AFRs on purpose will see further power out of it) however, too much will bring in overboost which won't leave the internals terribly happy for prolonged periods (nor the comp if its completely off the table). The ford Ts don't get the gains because the management is so tight-arsed. As soon as the system detects you've got too much boost she steps in to protect everything else, knocking off the power dramatically. Of course, beforehand it'll do everything it can to keep torque output at the consistent, desired level, but it can only do so much before it has to play hardball. Summarising - common turbo mods will do absolutely bugger all for the ford Ts until the ECU is edited (surely this has been said many times before).
