I have found 42lb injectors are done at about 15.5psi/330rwkwish. Find a new tuner for the next engine.

Nice, So how did it all end up?
-
Harmans Motors on Colombo st are awesome they are now SCT/Herrod agents.

How did this saga end? My 2cents is if engines were intended to have rags in them Ford would have put one there. I hope they paid for there mistake remember businesses should have insurance for that sort of stuff up.

Getting Extra Kw Without Replacing 5 Sp Man Gearbox
Madwhip replied to mattxr6tute's topic in General Tech
I have 280rwkw and have made about 15-20 passes at the strip with my 5 speed. I use ams oils in the box and change it every 1500km. So far so good but I'm always wondering when it will go bang. It has been running that sort of power for about 2 years and 30,000 km. I look after her and she has hung with me....so far. -
Race fuel can make an exhaust look white.

Yeah I bought the cams on a whim. I would not be surprised if I never install them With the stock piping and cooler I know I'm at my limit hence why it's boost will be up. I just don't want to spend anymore cash on this car at the moment. I have a S13 Silvia running a very trick engine it's 2.1L now it is built strong to make 320kw atw all day for the track so chances are the coon will never get anymore work as if I add power I will need a T56 so with the added power and box I could have bought some nice new slicks a cage and run it for a season of circuit and then some. But who knows I just spent the day down in Timaru at the drifting and took 3 of my mates with me. A rx7 gave me a nudge on the way home but he was dreaming and so was the Expensive Daewoo SS ute but it did not stop him trying 4 or 5 times. At least he warned me of a cop up the road so he was not a total loss. The Coon is by far better then any other car I have owned for a road trip and that does make me want to make it better.

Gutted to see you popped your block bro. I run a November 2002 BA with 5 speed, apparently the first turbo in NZ. So if Ba's are bad mine is the worst. I got it tuned to 280kw atw. It goes well runs a mid 13. And most importantly has not killed the box or the engine. But did eat a clutch when I checked it for the drags one night. Now has a Exceedy clutch that is mint. I have a 12 lb actuator and ported out for larger flapper. It has an APS exhaust with no cat. 42lb injectors and the large inlet Walbro. I added a extra intake to the standard cold airbox and use a K&N panel filter. I use my car as my every day drive and use it for business so wanted to be reliable. Rather then telling the tuner to run x amount of boost or make x amount of power. I told him to make no more then 280kw atw to keep the t5 alive and keep the mix safe. Once the tune was done he said it could make a little more and with an aftermarket cooler could make alot more. How much more I don't know. The car goes well too well to race round Christchurch in. My car runs about 14lb boost if your wondering. I have some pretty aggressive Crow cams to go in but will need valve springs and a T56 first. I like the way a car sounds with cams and all the cars I have been involved with cams have been a good thing if the rest of the build is done correctly adjustable cam gears are good to help the tuner as cams do require a more detailed/skilled tune to get the car to idle, run at full tit and come on boost nicely. Of all the cars I have played around with the coon has been easy to get power but I'm sure that's due to it being twice the literage of the nissans and the big turbo they come stock with. Remember a big turbo flowing 10lb flows more air then a small turbo running 10lb. Time slips are better then boost and power figures when it comes to brag time. I hope your build goes well.

I was going to leave it off but it just looked so hefty that I figured it was needed. As I'm sure Ford added as little as possible when they built the first of the turbos

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have found the nord locks perfect for two of the studs no problem with them but the other two come loose often and one of them the rear bottom is just a joke every time I check it it's either gone or loose. I sent a message to (Leigh)mr etm to see what he can offer. His web site was not working. When I had the turbo off to do the waist gate mod I checked the faces and they were sweet.Butt this was over a year ago and 3-4 studs since then I have not had the turbo right out. When I put the turbo back I used a quality gasket and studs it was fine for about 1000-2000kms but then loosened up blew the gasket so I never used a gasket again. I have never had a turbo car that did not have a gasket there but checked with Ford(LOL). I might give it one more go. Take the manifold and turbo out and mount them on the bench. I'll just not use the support bracket when I put it back together. What a pain in the butt job for a problem that should not exist.

yes I used two nuts. I'm wondering if the one that keeps dropping out has a crack running from the edge of the manifold to the screw hole it's the bottom rear.
-
I can remove the broken stud that's not my issue. I just want a setup that I don't need to keep working on. I have never had this issue with any other car. I was thinking of adding a spot of weld next time but this is only as I'm at wits end with it. I only get about 2500ks before I have to replace or re-tighten the studs. I could cut the flange off the manifold mount it with a v-clamp but that is a pain in the butt. I have owned the car 2 years or so and gone through 6 studs from them dropping out. It takes the pleasure out of owning a nice car when it needs constant work like this or I turn the stereo up so I can't hear it but the power loss is not fun. And car guys can hear the leak and look at you funny

Does anyone out there make a replacement manifold that retains the factory dump pipe? I just snapped a stud in my manifold and I'm sick of m having an exhaust leek every other month. I want to fix this one last time. I have found Nord locks stopped the nuts working loose now the hole stud just drops out. Just to be clear I'm talking about the 4 studs that hold the turbo to the manifold. I spoke with Ford and they said they just fit what ever is lying around . I think that's how they designed the manifold. Oh look here is a NA manifold fit a flange on it and she will be sweet damn ford and there short cuts.

Hi Silverjet, I'm in CHCH there are a few of us here. I have played around with mine and I would do the waist gate flapper mod and new actuator 12lb and not do the cooler straight up. Talk to Johnathan at Harman motors he tuned mine. I have 280kw at the wheels and it drives well.

Yes I'm starting to look at some rims but they will be wider and 18's.They are a lot of car to get off the line with a manual. I also want an intercooler and some valve springs for the new cams I have but rims first I think. Oh I'll need a T56 too if the coon is carry on getting "Fixed" . I had to laugh at the rear view mirror flying off my windscreen on one launch. Here was all the numbers on my best run. reaction .456 60 2.267 et 13.55 @109

Well my day might not have started if I had not had your help with that oil cap issue Cheers man. I ended up with a 13.55 I'm happy.

The 341 is the most commonly knocked off pump of all the walbro's. I got one off ebay paid more then others but they guaranteed it was real I got one with mustang fitting kit. Have had no problems with it. It's been in a while sixish months I think. Was a little tricky to mount in the cradle but I got creative to make sure it had good space round it's pick up. The mustang filters fitting was in the middle of the filter bag. I swapped the terminals over to so it just plugged in rather then join wires. I hope they don't give you another dud.
