  1. *ponders* yeah I think the last invoice I saw had them for like $5.71 - can't remember inc or ex. Either way they filter fine and at that price it's not like getting a service (oil & filter) every 5000 or 7500km is expensive ... From my understanding the more expensive filters often have a 'long service life' but don't filter appreciably more than a 'regular' filter through the early part of the 'regular' filters life..... If you don't want a manual - then it's not a big difference - none of the changes revolve around building the cars better - just options/specs and colours so waiting for SII may not be worth the effort! A.
  3. Yeah in the E series it was used for Demist and Arial adjustment etc, you'll want two of them to get enought pin inserts... I've been a bit slack and NOT taken one into ms700 to see if he can fiche one up on Microcat .... A.
  4. I've heard rumors that teh new Magna motors under testing are well into the 220kw range reliably.... 3.8L Quad cam etc - they've had engine mules gettign around for a good year or two. The power war is well under way A.
  5. Pity it's not a Neon - or indeed any Chrysler Product. Back to Car ID school with you.. It's a Kia Mentor or whater they're calling that thing today! A.
  6. Thanks Fordtech. When I pop into the dealers today to book in for a handbrake retension (they left it slack when replacing the diff) and get them to have another play with it I'll ask if after 3 trips to to them its worth escalating the fault up to HQ to see if the bright sparks there have any clue Can't be seen to know the insider terms.... It's interesting to note that Chrysler and Renault delaerships I've dealtwith in the past are far more proactive in escalation than Ford dealers appear to be.... A.
  7. Mario Mendoza, that's a perfect description of what mines doing! To the letter.. It happens pretty much any time in Canberra - but given temps are rarely above 12 degrees when I'm driving it could be temp related as well. Fordtech, would it be possible that a dealership popped out and checked plugs at the 15000km service point? Becuase just after that is when all my trouble started? (well after the reflash that happened after the service, before that it would cut out randomly once every blue moon) A.
  8. It's a combo - some cars are noisier than others... Mines noier than Falchoons for example. I've managed to cut some of the noise out of mine by creating a octopus of a thing that links a bunch of ground points together under the dash. When I have time I've going to work backwards through it to find out which arm fixed the problem. The key thing is to counter the low volume one woudl use a pre-amp - but the pre-amp needs to amplify the signal input (easy enough becuase the preamp links directly to your source (iPod or xbox in my case) so it gets clean input... BUT its output can be affected by noise introduced from its power source, or worse still intrudced in it's output stage thanks to the BA wiring being noisy in that area. Keepign a small size and small component count while making a good quality noise resistant one is more difficult for me becuase audio electronics is more new to me than logic and power control electronics... I understand ECU logic much better than audio stuff A.
  9. Soudn quality is great - I'm working on digging up a decent preamp spec to use witht he system to boost volume (and also plug into phone/aux harnesses) but to be honest getting one togther that's cheap and has very low noise is not that easy :( A.
  10. Whelp, after a full check of the fuel and ignition systems and having a new diff installed my car is not really any better. Oh they did clean the throttle body citing that a passage to a temp sensor in it could be blocked. Car runs a little stronger but still surges then cuts out under about 70% throttle. Few other little hassles that came about from them trying to do too much in one day so I'm back to the this afternoon to let them know how it goes (or rather doesn't) Starting to think pulling out all my data logging gear and laptop is going to be the only way to catch this fault- but even then it's not leaving any tell-tales in the ECU so they dealership is stumped. Out of curiousity is there any easy way to extract basic diagnostics out of the car? Everything I've had previously had a combo of turning on the ignition key in conjunction with a button, or a cycle of key switches that would trigger the ECU to dump it's codes onto a display (or blink a light). I would suspect overboost as I can trip it out of limp mode by doing pretty much what LOK said, but then if a factory car with nothign but an XR8 intake starts doing it regularily from the moment it gets the latest software update from Ford I suspect somethign else is broken The car ran stronger and _much_ more reliably pre-update. A.
  11. Yup - Mine started doing this after a re-flash of the ECU which was supposed to fix gearbox weirdness. So far no fix, it's booked in again today but as my diff has turned up I doubt they'll get enough time to chase and fix the actual glitch that's annoying me the most. A.
  12. I've got a SE HCB-30 in my XR - it works brilliantly with the ICC, turns the ICC on when in a call even iff ICC is off, mutes audio (obviously) Got a PDF covering the DIY install on a web server too URL should be in my sig .... A.
  13. Congrats to Ian and Anita, all the hard work and countless hours has paid off. The Kitty and I are cheering from all the way down here A.
  14. I dunno about that - I had mine ont he dyno last weekend with a probe up it's clacker and the thing was prociding a steady 12.5:1 under load at full noise. Pretty much fine IIRC.. A.
  15. Fordtech - would this have occurred 'suddenly' or built up over time? I have got 8 hours booked with the dealerships ECU/BA/WDS legend when he gets back from leave on the 28th. At least they're takign my concerns seriously. I'm starting to think since I did the battery disconnnect power is pretty close to 'normal' (Three Dyno runs on the weekend all at around the 180-190kw mark on a "tough dyno") but it's still cutting out and surging on the road. One of the torque printouts looks like a staircase with steps up the curve! It's definately not running 'right' but it's hard to demonstrate the fault when it's intermittent under yet occurs 90% of the time under certain conditions. I don't expect the tech to drive the car all day trying to trip it up. We'll see what happens, I'm presuming I'll now get the TB cleaned up - probably a reflash to make sure the previous flash wasn't corrupted and a through check of sensors etc via the WDS.... A.
  16. Yup - inline with the comments made by ms700, (who helped source the parts and with nice clear instructions on how it shoudl feel as it goes together) the intake does make a difference. I pulled the filter out a couple of days ago and it's possible to see the 'dirt' on it showing how the air comes in through the BPT piece as well as blows yup through the XR8 under headlight duct. It also gave me a few improvements in consistency between runs on the Dyno. A.
  17. So it all works on a "exchange" basis? Bit unfair if you ask me.... Errr ... You'll find that I've provided info all through these forums, PLUS I've sent stuff onto people who've asked for it. Some people work on exchange, I work on ask and recieve help. However if peopel want to exchange then I'll do that too. Like you Mick I've gain benifit from others sharing on this forum and I like to think that we give back what we can... Sorry if it sounds narky, but I feel a bit singled out there. And besides that - it's simply scanned printed versions of the same docs I have in PDF form. Thanks for hosting it all for everyone to share Cro. Watch out for Ford lawyers...... Apparently they don't like copyright infringement. A.
  18. *nods* interested to see if it's the same as the stuff I already have :0 Will exchange with what I have if anyone is interested in some wiring diagrams... A.
  19. I so wish I had done that now FordTech..... Then again I had to do it to see if it helped witht he weird gearbox action... Naturally it didn't. If you car runs fine definetly don't get an update! A.
  20. OK small fang done..... It seems a bit smoother, less surging and definately more BOV (factory) noise on lift off. Seems to sound a bit more 'normal' with less almost pinging sounds.... Try it.... I'll reserve judgement for a couple of days... A.
  21. Doh sorry JB You about to go for a fang now..... A.
  22. HB - an upgrade that didn't affect performance but cleaned up the cold running performance of the auto box and got rid of the random stalling is what I wanted..... What I've gotten is a poor performing, dangerous with power losses all over the plac, surging, nasty sounding, crapola of an 'upgrade'. Today I tightened the turbo inlet plpumbing which somehow cam loose when they were doing the update... And have disconnected battery to reset ECU to see if it makes a difference.... We'll see.... A.
  23. take a look at pics of mine.. http://aaron.ausmicro.com/xr8intake/IMG_8486.JPG http://aaron.ausmicro.com/xr8intake/IMG_8487.JPG http://aaron.ausmicro.com/xr8intake/IMG_8488.JPG http://aaron.ausmicro.com/xr8intake/IMG_8489.JPG They show how the pieces come together with the BPT adapter as well... A.
  24. mmmmm Wonder where I'm going to find a place that won't have a 3 week wait to get them to look at it.....
  25. Funny - I have very similar symptoms and yet filling it with Optimax has made stuff all difference.... A.
