  1. Esky, Correct me if l'm wrong but l thought that one of the major advantages of synthetic oils such as that used in the XR6T is that they aren't carbon based and so dont break down and leave deposits?
  2. How many years of service is it going to take without proper warming and cooling of the turbo before there is a problem? Any ideas? Ford must be pretty confident it will be ok as they have given us a 3 yr/100000km warranty.
  3. Mondie replied to Grant's topic in General Tech
Its 3000km for the XR6T, probably the same for all the BA's. This is just a free checkup, but when ours is due l think l will have them change the oil & filter also.
  4. So Librandragon, When do we get to read this good news? You've gone and got us all curious
  5. l remember reading somewhere that the XR6T has been designed so that it doesnt need a minute or two of idiling before shutting down. Synthetic oil, the cooling system and the design of the turbo sheilding is such that its not necessary. l remember reading this and thinking it was a good thing. Sorry l cant recall the article.
  6. Every Falcon built has a SIDO, its issued before the car even exists and is used to track the car from birth to delivery and beyond. l'm not sure if it tells you anything about the particular car. Going form the number of Turbo's the dealer we went through has delivered (6), and that they are one of many (150+ ??) dealers l would make an uneducated guess that at least 200 XR6T's would be on the road now, maybe even double that.

What a waste of electrons And as for your question as to who makes the CD unit, well a politician couldnt have answered better :blank:
  8. On second look, those wheels could be T3 18's. l wonder if Ford have changed the wheels they are putting on these from those in the press photos released a few months back?
  9. Mybe they were tryin to loose the god awful wing spoiler thingy that IMO totally stuffs up the look of the car. One day car designers will learn that sometimes less is more l agree Richdave, its like car designers such as those at HSV and now it seems FPV think these big wings are what everyone wants, to look like a v8 supercar. Ends up looking like a bit of a joke to me, there is nothing about it that enhances the car at all and it doesnt fit with the classy "European" understatemnet of the BA. Dont think the wheels look as good as the optional XR 18's either, but maybe be l am being a bit harsh (and biased)

    l'm greedy, with 3 kids l need 4 doors :D And 300kw...please FPV.
  11. Mondie replied to CJF077's topic in Ford Discussion
A GTHO perhaps with a blown engine would be great, but what l would really love to see is an FPV version of the turbo 6 making 300kw. That would instantly make every V8 Expensive Daewoo make redundant. Now that would be awesome, and probably not too hard to acheive.

    Yep, no problems here either.

that's about identical to what our computer is showing also, but the two times l have filled her up and calculated usage manually each fill l have found the computer was overstating usage by 0.3 - 0.4lt/100, so the actual consumption is probably under 12lt/100. Excellent considering the performance and the cars weight.
  14. Have you installed the globes yet Chris, or are you waiting for more info before you give them a go?
  15. Geez, how luckys that? You must be a smooth talker I dont know what the headlights are worth for an XR, but a pair would have to be worth $800 - $1000. That would hurt...
  16. Whew, that must have been one expensive meltdown to repair
  17. that's a good point edge, its obvious now that you point it out, but l have never thought of that before. l may have to invest in some of the Meguiars stuff you and CJF use, it sounds like its worth it. l think l will give the Zymol a miss though
  18. l am keen to hear what you think of them CJF, As turbo6man says, true Xenon lights cost an arm and a testicle, be interested to see just how much of a difference these globes make.
  19. Mondie replied to CJF077's topic in XR6 Turbo
Nah, mine says the same thing and its built Nov 02. Must be some Ford internal code thingy. l like how Ford has used the new stickers to make car re-birthing more difficult though.
  20. Mondie replied to physh's topic in Off-Topic
Physh, This is also my only gripe with the car. l think its excessive in our car and will get it checked at the 3000km service. You do learn how to live with it and drive smoothly most of the time, but it becomes more difficult to avoid the clunk when punting along harder than normal. Most other manual owners here havent noticed this, maybe our cars are the exceptions??
  21. Yes, l agree wholeheartedly Richdave. l have been involved in the past with several active forums that become very unfriendly places because the discussions became personal instead of topical. As a result fiery arguments, counter arguments and general slanging occured to the point where many people just left the forum, and for those who remained, the 'feel' of the place was never the same. l would hate to see that happen here. :(
  22. Mondie replied to CJF077's topic in Off-Topic
l think its enough for me also, well for the time being Probably only keep the car for 3 years so l wont get too carried away, l would rather keep the car standard, no warranty or insurance hassles and a l am hoping a strong resale value as a result. The only mod l may consider is the exhaust. In three years time l reckon l should be able to buy a 300kw turbo 6 running a 6 speed manual from FPV. Until then, l am more than satisfied with my car.

Hi Amh093, l have posted on this topic several times before, but here are my thoughts again. We have owned several manual cars until we bought our TS50, the car we had prior to our XR6T. It had a tiptronic auto that l thought would be a good substitute for a manual, but it wasnt. The novelty soon wore off and l was hankering for a manual. You cannot beat the control and direct feeling of a manual, if you like manuals then IMO an auto with ESS or SSS is no substitute. Drive both as its the only way you will know for sure whats right for YOU.
  24. l think all these XR6T drivers must realise they are driving something very special and unique, and best of all Aussie made. Its like we are members of some special club. A lot like this forum
  25. Bluetooth powered speakers, fine for convenience but l cant imagine the sound quality being anything to get excited about Shows the potential of this short hop wireless technology though.
