Just got a 5sp manual 2003 BA XR6T with a top and bottom rebuild done ~10,000km ago. Car is stock as a rock, apart from a heavy duty clutch and I was hoping to try and squeeze 270kw at the wheels. I've done some research and so far it's lead to me to believe I need 42lb Bosch injectors, Walbro 460 pump, Autotechnia intercooler, coldside intake/plumping and a dyno tune. However, I'm confused over if I need a highflow cat and upgraded valve springs if I'm trying to push the power I want. I'm trying to stick to a budget and don't want to spend more money than I need to.

Any advice would be appreciated, TIA.

You definitely don't need all of those mods that you "believe" you'll need to make it to your 270kW goal... but it wouldn't hurt to have it all to make it a bit more reliable... cat will likely be needed as they're getting a bit old and at best need replacing so a 100cpi one would be the way to go if it needs it... valve springs are the same deal, generally need upgrading on a BA motor due to their age.

A 460 is overkill, it requires a wiring upgrade and a fuel reg upgrade. Use a 255 and you won't need wiring or reg, pretty much fit and forget and good for up to 350rwkw.

Thanks for the advice, atm I'm looking at getting a Walbro 255, Venom bolt on 100 cell cat, 42lb Bosch injectors and Crow Cam springs. I want to change the stock intake, intercooler and piping since I find it hideous looking, but if it's not needed for ~270kw could I swap it out later down the track and not need to get a retune, or should I just get everything done at once? Also any recommended tuners for Perth/Bunbury area  that don't charge an arm and a leg would be greatly appreciated 🙂

It's always a good idea to ask around to see what the realistic scope of your work is. But if you're not doing it yourself, you should really discuss your goals with a few reputable tuners, and have them design a package that you're both happy with.

I don't know anything about BA's as I have an FG G6ET (well my wife drives it nowadays), but in terms of tuners I highly recommend Extreme Ford Tuning.

I'm not going to say too much more than that other than to say I initially used another tuner in Perth and wasn't happy. Simon and Doug at XFT restored my faith and sorted out the drivability and idling issues. I don't know where XFT rates in terms of price as they had to methodically go through and work through the issues, and retune it. But at least the car is running properly again, and as a bonus the car has more power and is much more refined to drive.
