Hi All,

Just wondering what the hell those black tin/metal plates are that are between the wheel and the disc?

do they server a purpose other then blocking view of the disc and calipers?

are they a spacer? or some other system designed to vent air onto them or what?

the million dollar question is CAN THEY BE REMOVED with no adverse effects on steering/braking/speed/drivability?

cause I think they are fuggin ugly!

Cheers,

Matt

Took mine off about an hour after I got the car when I fitted my 18's. Never had a problem yet and never will.

Saw someone the other day with after market wheels with these still on and it made me laugh.

I read here on the forum the other day someone took off their spacers and could not get their front wheels off after, apparently the front hub is tapered and without the extra thickness of the dust sheild it was stuck.

I have 17's and took them off (the black spacers that is) as soon as I got the car and have had no problems.

Ripped mine off 12 months ago without any problems.

They are so you can't see the rusting brake rotors, if you can live with that rip them off.

I painted my calipers and the dust covers a few weeks ago.

Has anybody who removed them tried to take their wheels off again since? All I've heard about them so far is that one guy removed his and later tried to take his wheels off and they were kinda fused to the hub and were mega hard to get off. He put his dust covers back on. I'm keeping mine till I get more feedback on this.

The other alternative is to get them cut down as their dust retention abilities are fairly moot, but their job as a spacer may be needed maybe.

I dunno about painting the spacers, no offense to you Genebaby, but the colour just looks too overpowering.

As for the fusing, that speakers for itself

I'm going to take mine off and just trim them so they aren't visible behind the mag wheel.

or if more supporting evidence of this lack of 'fusing' comes through I may just leave them off altogether.

but painting the calipers is well worth the $9.0 in paint and 4 hours of painting :)
