Xr6t Auto - Reverse Gear Roll Forward

Featured Replies

Having been used to my EL Ghia for so long, when I got into my new XR6T Auto, I was caught out when I selected reverse and the car rolling forward quite easily when I was in a slight hill.

The EL will stay put when you go to reverse and take your foot off the brake (before applying power to start reversing).

Driving the BA I find I have to keep my foot on the brake and then apply power to get reverse to hold the car to stop the roll forward.

Whats the go here? Anyone else find that this is different than other cars or is it quite normal and was I just lucky with the EL?

I noticed the same, nearly rolled into a gutter first time in the car when I went to reverse up my driveway. My AU Wagon selects reverse much quicker than the T and holds itself from forward movement better.

Oh Well, just select R earlier and put the pedal down harder.

Yeah... described perfectly. It does take a moment to engage but I don't like the idea of rolling into something. It's just another minor annoyance that'll give SWMBO the opportunity to smack the T into something that won't be worth claiming on insurance. Grrr.

Same here. I was actually going to bring up the time it takes to engage reverse with the dealer but it seems like mines the norm.

specially designed that way .... saves stresses on the auto

Mines takes a second to engage but I don't find it rolls forward after it has engaged though. I don't find it to be much of a drama, I just put my foot on the brake until I feel the load on the driveline and then release the brake and away we go. :censored:

I was out for a drive today with the family and was on a steep hill and was mentioning this rolling forward in rev gear to the missus - to prewarn her.

When I went to demo it, the car didn't roll whatsoever. So I reversed a bit and tried again. Nope... bloody thing made a liar of me. The missus said, "yeah right, ok just park the car and let's go shall we". Grrrr.

I wonder if it's only slight inclines that the rolling occurs on? I haven't had opportunity to try it since.
