Hi All,

I have just recently purchased an 03 BA Auto XR6 T with full service history bog stock, except for an alternative muffler (slightly louder than stock).

I wanted to increase boost a tad but nothing too crazy as my girlfriend will also need to drive this car and I don't want her killing herself or losing her licence.

My question is and I know this has probably been asked a million times before by noobs like myself, do I need to purchase an addon unit for ECU? or can you reflash the actual ECU? I have done a tonne of reading on the forums and it seems you can't just install a bleed valve and tweak it a bit? any info in regards to this will be helpful, I am in melbourne so if and when I need a tune it will be great if anyone can recommend local tuners.

Sct tune, needs a handheld unit to go with it. Tunes into the unit and you can load it on and off your car

Hp tuner, doesn't require a handheld. Puts the tune straight onto the ecu.

Only the really old systems were plug in units, but that was back when the xrt came outp

You don't need to buy hp tuner software unless you want to tune the car yourself

It is not like the early turbo cars where a few simple add ons could change the performance. ( Like the S15 Nissan ).

The factory ecu does its very best to defeat all of that. The ECU gets reflashed. Add-ons have had their time.

Go and see Mick at pitlane and I am 100% sure he will sort out what you want. If you get retune and put a lower feed extension onto the factory airbox, ( plenty on ebay) you can get a bit above the old typhoon figures of 270 odd KW at the engine. It is a difference you can feel, it is a budget option and is pretty safe for most drivers. If you decide to do this, make sure the fuel and air filters are new + the plugs new and gapped at 0.8mm.

It is actually really worth it. The cars just drive so much better and provided you do not beat the hell out of it, the drivelines do last and cope with the occasional burst.

{I am assuming the car has reasonabvle k's on it and in good overall shape.}

Thanks for all the info guys. I bought this car as an ex fleet car completely stock with a full service history. Car drives like new. has the premium sound / leather seats and steering wheel options. Has never been modified / boosted and I just wanted to tweak it a bit. Turns out that its no where near as easy as it was when I had my R33 skyline 12 years ago. I will call Mick at pitlane when I get the time to have it done and will probably get them to do a basic tune / plugs etc. I'm not looking for 400RWKW lol just a bit of an improvement over stock (Without destroying a motor)!....
