depending on customers requirements and mods we may fit a low temp thermostat, too low and fuel economy suffers, oil may not protect as it should etc.

Forged pistons, that's another debate but piston to bore clearances are probably the biggest deciding factor in that car

ok just checked my info BA 6 cyl thermostat is listed as opening from 89-93c and fully open 103-106C

I wouldn't expect the fans to run on the freeway, there should be enough ram air to do the cooling without the need for the fans. Of course if the fans were on before freeway speeds they would stay on until the threshold that switches the fans off.

My BF temp is normally a little under half (3/4 between the first temp mark and half), at half is where my fans are normally kicking in, once fans are on the temp drops very quickly to the normal level again.

hey guys have changed the thermostat today and all went well fan only came in heavy traffic and once going it went off and it was sitting under halfway ... but I willl be putting fresh coolant in this weekend

You asked if the OP had just done a coolant change. I was just curious as to why you asked as I have just done one and have noticed needle sitting slightly higher.

If you use too much coolant your engine won't cool as well as running the right mixture. Nothing cools better then straight water, and coolant is not very good at transferring heat. If your using premix I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok makes sense as went from 30/70 to 50/50.
