My Car, 2005 BA MK 2 Turbo, 6 speed manual.

I have been using / playing with a number of different Softwares for a number of years...

The best one is called ' ForScan '... And it's free.http://forscan.org/home.html

What is FORScan?

FORScan is a simple software scanner for Ford and Mazda vehicles, designed to work over ELM327 OBD2 to RS232 interpreters

Main features

  • Read and reset Diagnostic Trouble Codes from all modules (see list of supported modules below)
  • Fast reading of engine sensors' data
  • Run diagnostic procedures

    Supported adapters:

  • ELM327
  • OBDLink SX (STN1100)

    Supported modules:

  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
  • Transmission Control Module (TCM)
  • 4x4 Control Module (4x4)
  • Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
  • Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
  • Variable Assist Power Steering (VAPS)
  • Steering Angle Sensor Module (SASM)
  • General Electronic Module (GEM)
  • Restraint Control Module (RCM)
  • Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC)
  • Navigation Controller (NAV)
  • Front Lighting Control Module (FLM)
  • Headlamp Control Module (HCM)
  • Audio Control Module (ACM)
  • Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU)

All Ford vehicles detected by ELM327 interpreters.

    Supported protocols and bus:

  • FORD HS CAN
  • FORD SCP (J1850 PWM)
  • FORD 9141

Note: Ford MS CAN is not supported by standard ELM327 adapters. Support of non-standard (modified for support of MS CAN) adapters is expected in further versions.

    Requirements

ELM327 OBD2 to RS232 interpreter connected to a laptop or other device powered by Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 platform.

I found 1.3.9 beta, 2013-02-25 to be the best to use.

http://forscan.org/download_old.html

It will show all ECU's... On my car it found seven of them.

The software will also read ABS codes and more.

The software will work with the Chinese Made Elm 327 Clones...

But I like to use the OBDLink SX. It runs at a very high Baud rate .

Hi,

I downloaded this software and tried to connect to my 02 BA XR6 with ELM327.

It wouldn't connect.

So I went to the FORSCAN site and found an article on how to modify the ELM327 to make it read the early BA's

I will carry out the mod today and report back how it goes.

For others who may be interested.

I just re-read the HOW TO's on the Forscan site.

It actually states that the software should establish a connection to the ECU via the ELM 327 and then prompt you to activate the switch.

As my connection between the ECU,ELM 327 and my laptop isn't connecting it would appear that this mod will not help.

I downloaded and tried VER 1.3.9 and then tried the latest VER 2.04.

What version of FORScan are you running Luke?

Im just running the Beta listed in the OPs link. I can run PCM KOEO and KOER test, ABS self test, Cluster self tests etc etc. The Dash board and Scope have access to PID's that I cannot access using torque alone.

SC88 what's your PC specs? Any idea what version Chip is in your ELM? if it's any older than 1.4 bin it and buy a new one off ebay. When I was playing around last night (windows 8 64bit pc, ELM327 Bluetooth and the cheapest and nastiest Bluetooth dongle I have ever scene) I initially had issues until I had the correct coms ports selected (5 in my case) and manually set the Baud rate to 38400. Be aware it took a good 1.5 minutes to initially connect. Car is an 04 BA2 btw
