Hi guys,

I have a xr6 turbo ute ba 4 speed auto,only 281kw @ wheels,

Driving to work today and was sitting about 100 cruise control on,

Car went to drop back a gear as I was going up a small hill then a loud humming noise, then it clunked into gear, then tried dropping back a gear and done the same thing,so I pulled over for 10mins and went to take off again, then the auto could only find 1st and 2nd, tried tip tronic and that did not work,

Any help?

Or is it time for a new gearbox,

If so what should I get?

sounds exactly what mine did, except mine drove fine for about 2 k's then when I slowed down it slipped, clogged the filter with clutch material, and went nowhere, got it towed, changed auto filter and it had first and second but that's it....turned out clutchs were f*cked haha.

that was with a box from a low k BF N/A ...lasted a month(I have turbo) the box in it now is from a n/a BA with unknown k,s etc but useing the turbo tourq converter, was told it would only last a month if that (as turbo and non turbo are different...) but its lasted 6months and going pretty strong now that auto oil was changed.

lakey, what part of Australia are you in? Someone then will be able to guide you to a trans specialist in your area.

I am running similar power to you in my BA, and have had my trans rebuilt and beefed, and it works great.

Thanks Jas trying to get it towed back to Mackay QLD Johno,

I only got my car serviced not even 1000ks ago, but haven't had my gear box serviced since I have owened it,

As you said Jas I am thinking worse case that I need a re build, if clutches have gone
