G'day,

Ive got a 2004 BA MkII XR6T with 160,000 K's on the clock and recently when I have gone to overtake or something and the car has hit full boost, the revs have jumped up around 250-500 Rpm and then settled back to the appropriate level as the car accelerates.

Obviously it sounds like the clutch is slipping, I just find it strange that once it slips, it is gripping again without any modulation of the throttle. I would have thought once it had slipped, the only way to stop it would be to remove some of the torque?

You might find that once the clutch slips the load is reduced off the engine and the boost falls off. This would reduce the amount of torque going through the clutch and allow it to grip again.

You will find it will progressively get worse and not begin to grip again. And start to happen earlier on in revs with less load and eventually lower gears.

Eaxh time it slips it will create hot spots on the flywheel and pressure plate then loose it's coefficient of friction and just continue to get worse.

You can check if your clutch is knackered by driving really slow (10km/h) then dropping the clutch in 4th and accelerating.

If it stalls your clutch is fine. If it slips start looking for a replacement.

Funny thing is though if it tuned it will probably power on .

Gotta love torque.

I've accidentally taken off in 4th before. And the poor girl has longer ratios than std. Whoops :P
