19/12/03 04:26 AM19/12/03 04:26 AM #1 Fellow XR6T owners,I have owned 4 vehicles prior to my current XR6T and im quite dissapointed especially after forking out 50,000. I have had the car for 2 1/2 weeks and already the diff is being changed next week. Apart from the diff, the engine has stalled twice after some spirited driving and the check engine light also seems to have a mind of its own. I have owned an N14 SSS Pulsar ( top little performer and bulletproof), a VY 2 5.7 lt SS Commodore (a piece of rubbish, blew the diff, sold it after 9 months) and two subaru WRXs. I must say that the subaru is a far superior vehicle to the XR6T, in reliabilty, straight line speed, handling, steering, braking and the only categories that the XR6t would be better are comfort and insurance premium cost. The WRX was also a bulletproof proposition and never once complained after being driven hard. I beleive this is because the vehicle was engineered with this in mind however the XR6 t, although endowed with a terrific motor, has been engineered as a family car and not a performance vehicle. My main concern now is if the car is going to hold together, and I hope I dont have problems with gearbox and motor.Londas
19/12/03 05:08 AM19/12/03 05:08 AM #2 What has your dealer committed to? Has the check engine light triggerred any fault codes?Don't this take the wrong way - but the Rex is a small medium car on steriods not a dedicated sports car! Even if the T and Rex were dedictaed sports cars - what diff would it make? Why did you choose not buy a Rex after you sold the VY 2?Strange how you sold a VY 2 after 9 months - I thought they were only released 2 or 3 months ago.

Mate if your wrx was so good why did you get a a Late model camira or FordYou drove your rex's hard but never experienced clutch or gearbox problems Best advice I can give you is to get your hand off it
19/12/03 07:58 AM19/12/03 07:58 AM #4 I certainly respect WRX's but I would never buy one...I am way too tall to fit into one comfortably and I couldn't cart around the rest of my clan in one and as to reliability Subura has had over 7 years to perfect there car. I certainly am expecting better things from the Series 2 "T" (Even though as he touches wood I have not experienced any of the major problems as some of the other members have on this forum).
19/12/03 10:31 AM19/12/03 10:31 AM #5 If we wish to compare the Base BA (XT) vs the base Impreza (GX?) I wonder which is the better engineered car?Chassis, Brakes, Comfort, Safety et al?Four Sticky Driving tyres and 1250Kg a killer car does not make!and yes, I would love to drive, let alone own a WRX (MY99)...its right up there with the XR6T (of course) Skyline GTR, a 426 Daytona R/T and a Ferrari 250 GTO but sometimes I think they're defended with more vigour than even the blue oval.
19/12/03 11:40 AM19/12/03 11:40 AM #6 XF, since when are we comparing base model vehicles? Talk about moving the goal posts!Londas - sounds like you have a lemon, but as a ex-wrxer I am happy with the value of my T. Only problem has been a warrantable leaky windscreen.Andrew
19/12/03 11:57 AM19/12/03 11:57 AM #7 Londas, Mate, I think it's extremely rude of my fellow forumites not to welcome you properly to the site. Enjoy your car and the site and don't take it too badly when people do things like: :o :o and ... it's probably just that they think you deserve it ...

The APS T fitted with a 5 speed has done over 50,000km's and done with a lot of R & D with high horsepower. WRX's are known for there weak gearbox but each model since it's first release was improved, I know for a fact 2nd gear was strengthened by Subaru right up until the MY99 I'm not sure if this continued after this model but I'm sure Ford will fix the teething problems for the T. My dad owns a my99 and had it since new and has some modifications performed by APS it's done 35,000km's and still has the standard clutch and no problems with the gearbox. I've heard stories of the standard clutch in Subies only lasting 10,000km's or much less and blowing gearboxes, but if you launch at 6000rpm at every set of traffic lights it's bound to break something. We've raced it at Calder and it's driven very hard and still going strong and never experienced any problems at all. I'm sure this will happen with the T as well and will be interesting to see what improvements will be made by ford. By the way I dont think Subies are that small my dad is 6'1 and around 100kg I'm a similar size and fit ok, but I guess compared to the T there small. 19/12/03 12:31 PM19/12/03 12:31 PM #9 however the XR6 t, although endowed with a terrific motor, has been engineered as a family car and not a performance vehicle. I was just thinking that was a reference to the basic chassis design etc...Ie the "family car".Wasn't attempting to be spiteful or goal post moving or anything! No truly...wasn't
