May 3, 201214 yr #21 Yeah I know how you feel mate, in the same boat at the moment spent about 2k on gettin a new housing and porting and intake and tune and everything to only have the actuator sh1t itself and put the new one on and have it boost all over the shop and be back at square one.As for bypassing the solonoid, if your running a boost gauge give it a go and see what it does but from experience its still probably gunna overboost.
May 3, 201214 yr #22 Shouldn't overboost if it's ported properly (well not past the actuators minimum boost of 12psi). Bypassing the boost solenoid makes it run at the lowest possible boost at all times. That means you will have 12psi on tap at WOT. It's easy to do and can't hurt anything as long as you make sure the control hose can't come off. Some small cable ties should hold it on. The butterfly will open as it takes what air it requires from the pressurized piping. If it still surges it's because you are trying to command a boost which is lower than the actuator will go. In your case 12psi is the lowest. You may as well have left your old actuator in if you wanted to command low boost levels.Of course your tuner would have told you that.Has it actually had a proper tune? May 3, 201214 yr #23 it wont "overboost" , its hitting boostcut , as the tune is set for 8 psi. but will always boostcut due to the 11.8 psi actuator.if u have a 11.8 psi actuator on an 8psi tune u will always have issues.get a boost gauge so you can aleast give us an idea of what the boost is actully doing.have u tried talkin to ali , hes a good bloke and if there is an issue he will sort it.unless u swap actuators , your min boost level will be 11.8 PSI ,anything under and the ECU will boostcut.
May 3, 201214 yr #24 Author na my tuner didn't tell me that about the acuator ,just put it on and got charged $400.00 just for the acuator..to be honest when I found out that the turbo needed rebuilding I asked what else could be done to the turbo while it was of and was told the acuator and ported turbo or something ,I never said do it ,just asked a question.then my quote at the end on pick up was over 3800 nothing like the original quote of 1800 - 2000 dollars..??so no I wont be going back there ill be going somewhere else..I went there from good feedback only to be totally dissapointed.is a boost guage hard to hook up
May 4, 201214 yr #27 Author Quadie I cant find the nipple thing you talk about on the turbo ..I see the acuator one..would any one have a pic ..so all I do u put the acuator end to the nipple ??
May 4, 201214 yr #30 Just getting off the subject of nipples....I have my motor out today and I have three actuators. Standard, 10psi and 12.8psi. Of the three of them none can extend fully when installed and they all only let the waste-gate open about 45 degrees, restricting the waste gasses. I had to grind a large chunk out of the 10psi one which I'm using now so it could fully extend and open about 80 degrees. I wonder if many people look at this and put air on them or they just chuck them in?
