Engine Temp And Bonnet Spacings

Hi guys,

I've got a BF I and after giving it a couple of squirts this morning it seemed to increase in engine temp from just over a third to just over about three eights. Picked it up from the mechanic this arvo and same thing after a squirt.

Is this just general engine temp or is the turbo heating something?

Where does everyone else's sit?

Also I remember from years ago some guys were putting spacers under the nuts at the rear of the bonnet so that there was a slight gap between the rear edge of the bonnet and the cowl which would draw air from the engine bay out. Has anyone done anything like this or do you think this would work?

Not in the market to get some sort of vented bonnet just yet.

Any ideas?

Those temps sound pretty normal mate. Instead of putting in washers for spacers you could try removing the rubber strip under the bonnet at the bottom of your windscreen.

I did do 3 laps at Winton and the temp gauge goes off the clock.

If you have a big fat cooler at the front it might be worth putting a slightly cooler thermostat in.

2nd vote for removing the rubber stri, not a HUGE difference but does let a fair bit of heat out...

No problems with the windscreen fogging up once the strip is removed?

I cant see how it would affect your tune at all. It just opens the thermo a little earlier ie at a lower temp, compensating for the reduction in airflow to the radiator by jamming a big intercooler in front of it. Happy to be corrected though.
