I like the look of the G6E Turbo spoked wheel but want to fit some wider rubber.

Was thinking of getting the rears widened. There is room on the inner part of the suspension and body to widen the rim an extra 1'' to 1.5''.

Does anyone have some advise on this and who does this in Aust. Basically they cut the rim in half and add a piece in the middle. I have read up on it and there is alot of negative talk about it. I know of one extremely high powered Late model camira that has widened alloys and he hasnt had a problem. Personally I dont see a problem with the strength of the weld or wheel. My main issue lies with the balance and trueness of the wheel after welding.

I dont want to get any other aftermarket rims.

I looked into doing this with my FG XR wheels and spoke to a company in Victoria who I was told could do it. Sorry I can't remember who they were as it was a few years back now. When I spoke with them on the phone they said it would require 4 sets of wheels as they would cut the centre out of two and weld them into the centre of the other two. Although they were offering to do this their advice was that this was not the safest modification and they couldn't gaurantee the wheel wouldn't crack or fail especially on a car with big horse power or being used for drag or track work. With this advice I decided not to complete the mod.

I know this may not be of great help to you but I thought I'd explain my experience.

I wish these after market wheel copies that are being sold would be manufactured in a staggered offset.

They are offered in a staggered offset but only in 20", which doesn't help us out at all... I'm in the same boat, I want wider rears but don't want to go bigger or use after markets at all

As above

I was going to do this to mine, I have spoken to them and it's easily do able

It's $200-250 per wheel to widen

Then you need a donor wheel as well $310ea G6Et 19's now cost

Not cheap, but I thought its worth it as I don't want any aftermarket wheels now either, the factory rims are suitable to widen as they have a flat section and not much taper, but I also wanted to space them too with custom hub centric spacers and longer wheel studs.

I've since brought another motorcycle and given up on the car so new tyres will do me when I get around to it
