There is room in the law for a stat right off to be repaired and re registered although it can only be done by the person that owned the car at the time of the right off. Off interest if you were to accidently revese your car to far when putting your boat into salt water and the carpet gets wet that is also a stat write off. Edited 14/02/12 10:20 PM by Slymeat

It has to all be approved by the RTA and repaired by an approved repairer. Otherwise, you'll run in to issues when you try and register it again. I think the way the rules work now means that if the repairs cost more than $9000 (75% of insured value) then it gets written off and all write offs are now stat write offs. Other than filling in the application (from the link posted), he's basically sh*t out of luck.

They would rather pay out $6000 then the some insured I know that. Myself having to quote jobs through "repair link" know that AAMI would be using all second hand or reconditioned parts unless unavailable in order to keep costs down. So I cant imagine a car just needing a radiator support being declared a stat.

He's applying for an RTA approval to fix it. Only thing he can do now by the looks of it.Thanks everyone for your help.
