Go for a drive around the block and lock the wheels up to make sure abs in indeed switched off. Worst case is you wont have any electrical aids but at least your car should drive properly.

I've never heard of that abs issue but have you checked your brake pads lately because I thought mine was abs but they were sh*t and just slipping and not gripping the disks. Also mate you may already know this but you could be getting really bad brake shudder which feels like shaking when your braking. It's just something to think about mate, let me know if any of this helps you!
